This page hosts requests to stewards and global renamers for a username change across the entire Wikimedia network. Please read the instructions before posting a request.

This is also the page where the usurpation of inactive accounts can be requested.

Instructions

SUL finalization

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available.

You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.


Simple rename requests

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Didn't Savh deny a user named GALAXY08 because he was blocked on his main project? I see that this user isn't blocked on his main wikiproject, but he is blocked on two other wikis where he has edited. Hello? Probably should not have been renamed as he is blocked in 2 wikis with significant edit numbers. Though not blocked in the wiki where he has the most of edits of all projects he's been contributing. Stryn (talk) 15:06, 17 April 2017 (UTC)reply

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure and consensus, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified by renamer at least two weeks before usurpation.

Warning: A username cannot begin with a lower-case letter: pagat → Pagat
  • Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
  • Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
  • Reason: As the owner of the domain pagat.com I prefer the name pagat as it would identify me more clearly. Someone registered the user name pagat on nl:Wikipedia several years ago but has never made an edit.

@Pagat1703: Notifying the user involves going to their home wiki talk page and then leaving them a message notifying them about this request, preferably in their language. You may use Template:Usurpation requested/nl, in this case. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 20:19, 17 March 2017 (UTC)reply
