Overview

The Wikimedia Digi-Youth Club adapts proven youth-mobilisation and STEM-education methods to the Wikimedia movement. Through structured local clubs, peer mentorship, and monthly themed challenges, the programme builds:

Wikipedia, Wikidata & Wikimedia Commons
Leadership
Club coordination and community building
Digital literacy
Tools, platforms, and open knowledge
Regional network
East Africa and West Africa youth community

Programme structure

Role Responsibilities
Project coordinator Leads overall timeline, reporting, and shared learning across countries
Country leads Manage local organising, partnerships, and logistics
Club mentors & trainers 1 mentor per club; technical trainers as needed
Clubs Groups of 8–10 youth; target 5 clubs per country in Phase 1

Who can participate
Age 18–25 — final-year secondary students, university students, or community-based youth
Club types Existing Wikimedia youth groups or newly formed teams at schools, universities, or NGOs
Commitment Full pilot phase (January–March 2026)
Policies All participants must follow the Wikimedia Friendly Space Policy and the Code of Conduct, and promote equity and inclusivity

How to get involved

Youth (18–25)
Join an existing club or start a new one. Contact your country lead or see the Countries page.
Mentors & trainers
Apply for training to support a club. Fill in the sign-up form or contact your country lead directly.
Partner institutions
Schools, universities, libraries, and youth NGOs can collaborate by hosting clubs or training spaces.
