New user submission
Hello - I recently created and submitted a proposed wikipedia page for an artist who painted from 1880-1920. How do I follow up on whether the page was "approved"? How long might it take? Wsbarrett (talk) 15:17, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, I don't deal with enwiki matters, but on enwiki you'll know if it's approved if you no longer see the "Draft:" namespace at w:en:Draft:Theodore Wendel. Can take any amount of time, which is really anyone's guess. //shb (t • c) 22:17, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

I still think that this page should be deleted. The subject page was never created, and the talk page itself doesn't appear to be a discussion at all. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 23:09, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
- Sure, I suppose this is probably the rare exception for Wikivoyage. I probably may have kept it if the sites were formatted using listings (since this practice isn't exactly uncommon), but yeah there's also no discussion either. //shb (t • c) 23:16, 17 January 2026 (UTC)

Weird type of spams
I am unsure how to proceed with users who create a page with a spammy edit summary, like "XXX company provides the best XXX etc...", but the page they create have nothing that is spam like in content. PieWriter (talk) 07:24, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- Normally I don't really look at edit summary – if the content is spam then I delete it it, if it's not then I'd keep an eye out. At least that's my guiding principle. //shb (t • c) 07:36, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

NEWS STREAK idea proposal
Hi SHB2000
would you like to sign up? It hasn't started yet, but I am collecting interest, and you can add your nick to the page. If you're not doing content edits frequently you could choose another streak period for your news content participation - for example, once each two months rather than once each two weeks.
It is being proposed to setup w:streak goals over a 12 week period: for example,
- "write one story each two weeks, and babysit it until it is published"
This could be either authoring a completely new article or this could be taking over someone else's article and doing focused editing on it with active collaboration with others until it is published. It is like a day shift as you are expected to remain available 'on call' to address concerns from another user or reviewer.
The aim of this is to build a habit of participation with outbursts of eyeballing the page to collaborate with others -- but not every day, to have breaks and reduce burnout. Could you please check out at this section and let me know what you think? Parameters are subject to discussion e.g.
- 'once every two weeks' or 'once a week' or 'once a month'
- should this be same for all or each person decides for themselves
- how long total comp running for, 12 weeks or 24 weeks or some other time
- some other ideas how to modify this
i would appreciate if you could reply by end of this week, it would be helpful
please note if you are interested you may signup in Wikinews:2026 streak competition at page bottom and you will be notified at your talk page if there are any updates or progress of this idea
thanks a lot

SHB2000 block reversal
I literally haven’t done any editing so why on wiki so why am I getting blocked by you for “long term abuse”? It makes no sense. Please reverse the blocked status. Thank you. Alfredatalor (talk) 06:10, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, are you affected by a rangeblock? Your account itself isn't blocked anywhere. //shb (t • c) 06:29, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- I can’t make any edits
- and why is there a range block ?
- what’s the way out ? Alfredatalor (talk) 07:35, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- A rangeblock is when the IP address you've been using gets caught up in a range of IP edits used by long-term abusers. Depending on which wiki you want to edit, you'll need to obtain IP block exemption locally (on the English Wikipedia, this can be found at w:en:WP:IPBE). //shb (t • c) 08:07, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- So how do I obtain the IP block exemption?
- because I am trying to create a wiki page for a movie and for a major brand but you banning me from posting is making it difficult. Alfredatalor (talk) 10:19, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- Guidance for enwiki here. That said, I don't think you should be affected anymore – please try again on enwiki (it should work). //shb (t • c) 11:00, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

Regarding the posted notification
Dear shb, hello. I noticed that you posted the notification about the request for a global ban on Faster than Thunder at zh:Wikipedia_talk:Guestbook_for_non-Chinese_speakers. I would like to let you know that relatively few users watch this page, so fewer people will receive the message. For this type of notification, you may consider posting it next time at zh:Wikipedia:互助客栈/消息, which is a page specifically used by the community for announcements and various notices, and will allow many more users to see it. Just wanted to let you know. Thank you. 浅村しき (talk) 13:52, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- However I have now moved your notification to zh:Wikipedia:互助客栈/消息. 浅村しき (talk) 13:55, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- I suppose, but that page also is explicitly for non-zh posts. //shb (t • c) 21:28, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hmm… that’s true, but that page seems to be used more by non-Chinese users to seek help. For this kind of notification, I think it would be best to post it at zh:Wikipedia:互助客栈/消息; using a foreign language is fine, since quite a few of the messages there are posted in English anyway. 浅村しき (talk) 16:49, 29 March 2026 (UTC)

Reminder: global rename policy requirement
You are receiving this message because you are either a Steward or a global renamer. If you are steward and don't perform global rename, you can safely ignore this message.
For the first 24 hours after a rename or vanishing request has been placed, it should only be processed by a renamer who has sufficient proficiency in the language of the requester's home or most active wiki, and is active on that wiki.
Refer to the 2025 RFC adding this rule, and following global-renamers mailing list emails: 1, 2, 3. Thank you.

Query about TAIV
I requested this to deal with abuse specific to meta, but I realise it works on all TAs since they automatically get an account here. Is there some restriction on using meta TAIV for abuse not specific to meta? If so, that should probably be in Meta:TAIV; if not, should we perhaps consider increasing the requirements from "300 local edits" to also require "active in cross-wiki anti-abuse work"? Asking for your thoughts as you're the admin who granted me the rights, but of course that would require a meta RfC. lp0 on fire () 14:38, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

Global Krinkle sysop no good
Hello. As a global sysop in 2025, you used Krinke to demolish local talk pages in one minute without considering at all whether they were useful or whether we wanted to keep them. See: [1]. I really do not think that global sysops are supposed to do that. Now I might have to restore some of them. One of the pages even had in it a special category "Archived deletion discussion page", but you did not appreciate that. You were in haste, and you saw only waste. --Pxos (talk) 21:32, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, my apologies for that, I'll exclude fiwikisource from such routine maintenance in the future. I've restored the ones with useful content for now, I'll leave it to the community if they want to keep those or not. //shb (t • c) 22:26, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
- The problem seems to be in the global policy for globocops. Most of the page merely lists permissions and the people that have them, but the words "routine maintenance" are mentioned once in the lead section: nowhere are the two separate concepts in any way defined (what is routine? what constitutes maintenance?). The second problem might be those external tools that are used. If there is no urgent business or any backlog, the tools may be used to create endless lists of semi-artificial problems to deal with. One solution to this could be the way the developers have categorized Linter errors. There should be high priority for actions against vandalism and for fighting abuse, medium to low priority for fixing issues or removing problems that are causing trouble, and perhaps "no priority" for touching things that really do not harm anyone. But doctors need years to graduate. Global coppers only need to read the policy, which might take minutes. The policy that does not tell you anything of significance. I used to apply for a temporary adminship on a Finnish project, say Wikibollocks, and got it for three months. When I left them to their own devices, I wrote to my user page that "even though I was here doing admin-level maintenance for three months, I still don't know squat of what this project is supposed to do, or how you are supposed to do things here". I wasn't (much) frustrated or (too) annoyed, I just didn't speak the same language with the locals, even though from the surface it looked like Finnish, my mother tongue. --Pxos (talk) 11:50, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

Temporary account IP viewer on arwiki
Hello @SHB2000, I hope you're doing well, I'm currently working on a draft policy for the Arabic Wikipedia regarding "Temporary account IP viewer", and As part of drafting this policy, I need to clarify a technical point about the CheckUser log; specifically, who are the parties that can review the log of IP lookups for temporary accounts? Is access limited to CheckUsers only, or does it extend to other user groups such as administrators or oversighters?
I need This detail to properly define the accountability section of the policy, and I'm reaching out to yuo specifically as you have extensive experience as a steward Regarding this matter, Thank you! -- Aws 💬 Talk 13:40, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
- @أوس: Hi, if you're wondering who can search IPs of temp accounts, that's usually admins, bureaucrats, and any user whose account has 300 edits + 6 months, and explicitly requests it. Feel free to use our policy on enwikivoyage at voy:en:WV:TAIV as a guide if you want. :) //shb (t • c) 21:52, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

Re: AI
special:diff/30567000: ahah Thanks. I have read the essay User:SHB2000/Synthetic nominations and appreciate the time you have taken to lay it out (even though I do not agree on all parts of it). You inspired me to write my own essay one day: I'll do it sooner or later. Promise! I have just two comments: (1) DeepL is based on AI (deep learning is AI)!, so it is not an alternative to it; rather, a different application of AI. I guess you meant that, in your view, the real dividing line is between generative LLMs and specialised AI translation tools. (2) Have you ever tried using www.originality.ai ? I suspect it is more accurate than zero GPT.—super nabla(🪰 msg) 08:24, 20 May 2026 (UTC) EDIT: btw, all these detection tools are reported to have a (small) fraction of false positives.—super nabla(🪰 msg) 08:27, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hey there – for 1, DeepL is significantly less likely to change the structure of your text, and is something that worked perfectly fine before LLMs came in; for 2, haven't used that specific tool just yet (might check it out later). btw if you are to craft your own essay, you should read BRPever's essay here – well worth a read. :P //shb (t • c) 11:53, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

- Hi, while it is possible for me to handle individual requests, mass requests should ideally be requested on m:SRM. I don't really feel comfortable taking mass action as arz is an RTL wiki, so I'll leave someone else to it. //shb (t • c) 03:58, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Opinion on answer
Hello SHB2000, I was browsing your U4C election guide to read your opinion on my answer to your question. The other 2 candidates from arwiki have given their answers. محمد أحمد عبد الفتاح Mohamed Ahmed (talk) 15:39, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- My guide is well, a user guide – it's not an obligation for me to constantly update it (especially when I've been out of town for most of this last week). It will be provided when I get the time. //shb (t • c) 06:44, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Two things
A. (Very late) congratulations on becoming a Steward and B. Once my enWP block for immaturity (I’m only 16) expires, I’d like an instant adopt-a-user. Another Wiki User the 3rd (talk) 02:00, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks for that :). As for the latter, I can try, but 2028 will be a pretty busy year for me irl and I'm not even sure if I'll be active enough on-wiki then to be able to take on that – feel free to ask me again by the time your block expires, but it's too far ahead in time for me to definitively take on that. //shb (t • c) 08:49, 11 June 2026 (UTC)

rollback
Hello @SHB2000,
I primarily work through WikiMonitor, where I occasionally assist with identifying issues such as spam link additions, unexplained content removals, and suspicious date changes across multiple wikis. However, I would not describe myself as being highly active in counter-vandalism work, nor do I perform a large number of reverts.
That said, I sometimes encounter situations where a revert is necessary, and on several wikis AbuseFilters prevent me from completing the revert. Because of this, I was wondering whether my current level of cross-wiki activity would be sufficient to request the Global rollback permission. My Regards-- Gerges (Talk) 15:58, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hmm, good question – I'd say if you usually have 150–200 reverts outside your home project that's a good threshold but I forgot where the tool is (I think it was from @DreamRimmer:). //shb (t • c) 23:16, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @SHB2000, I believe I have performed more than 200 global rollbacks outside my home project in the past, although that was some time ago since I have not been very active recently.-- Gerges (Talk) 13:46, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- @SHB2000, I added request on Steward requests/Global permissions#Global rollback for Gerges.-- Gerges (Talk) 18:38, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- sure thing :) //shb (t • c) 02:00, 26 June 2026 (UTC)

Hi, I'm HtialilwW. I admit I used multiple accounts for Wikivoyage to translate into French and Pashto and whatnot. But when you say that Te Reo Ahitereria or something like that was my first account, I got confused. That account was never mine, my first one was HtialilwW. I only joined in 2024, and, I had never even used Wikipedia back when Te Reo Ahitereria made his account. I request a check, or something similar. Have a good day - HtialilwW ThatEquatorialGuineaEditor (alt) (talk) 09:43, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

Request for review of the deletion and protection of “Noble Pillar Capital”
Hello SHB2000, I am contacting you regarding the deletion and creation protection of the page “Noble Pillar Capital” on Minangkabau Wikipedia. I understand that the previous versions did not meet the project’s language and content requirements, and that repeatedly recreating the page caused it to be treated as persistent spam. I will not recreate the page under another title or use another account to bypass the protection. I would also like to clarify that I have no employment, financial, contractual, or personal relationship with Noble Pillar Capital. I am not acting on behalf of the company and have not been paid to create or edit the article. May I prepare a completely revised draft in my user sandbox for review? The new draft would be written entirely in Minangkabau, use neutral wording, remove unsupported promotional claims, and include only information supported by verifiable sources. I am not requesting immediate restoration. I am only asking whether a sandbox draft may be prepared and reviewed before any future publication. Thank you. RegulatoryResearch2026 (talk) 21:24, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- No, because that subject isn't notable in any way. //shb (t • c) 02:00, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hello SHB2000,
- Thank you for your response. I understand that you consider the subject not to have sufficient notability under the currently available sources.
- I would nevertheless like to respectfully request a review of the indefinite creation protection on the title “Noble Pillar Capital”.
- I am not asking for the deleted article to be restored, and I will not recreate the article in the main namespace unless substantial independent and reliable secondary coverage becomes available and the community has first reviewed the proposed draft.
- I understand that repeatedly recreating the page was inappropriate. I confirm that I will not use another account, an alternative title, or another language edition to bypass the protection.
- Would you consider either:
- 1. removing or reducing the creation protection after an appropriate cooling-off period; or
- 2. explaining the specific conditions under which the protection may be reconsidered in the future?
- My purpose is not to bypass the notability requirement. I am only requesting that the protection status be reviewed separately from the question of whether an article should currently exist.
- If the protection cannot be changed at this time, I will respect that decision and will not submit another request unless materially new independent sources become available.
- Thank you for considering this request.

as RFH
Over at SRP, I was advised to submit my request here, This is not the correct place to request this user right, as RFH is the correct place for that. However, you said that it "doesn't inspire all that much confidence." Without the autopatrolled right, I cannot use Twinkle Global on Meta-Wiki. Làm Việc Thiện (talk) 13:24, 1 August 2026 (UTC)
- I haven't looked into the code of TWG, but User:TenWhile6/XReport has the same functionality as TWG and I can confirm for a fact that there are no permission requirements to use such. //shb (t • c) 13:34, 1 August 2026 (UTC)

- I'm confused – viwiki being a GS wiki means XReport should redirect all requests to GSR. Ten, perhaps could you confirm? //shb (t • c) 13:47, 1 August 2026 (UTC)

- If I use the local XReport tool on the Vietnamese Wikipedia, it submits the report to vi:Wikipedia:Tin nhắn cho bảo quản viên. If I use the local XReport tool on Meta-Wiki, it submits the report to Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. If I use the global XReport tool, it submits the report to Steward requests/Global.Làm Việc Thiện (talk) 14:38, 1 August 2026 (UTC)

Completely out of line
I only became aware of this now, hence my belated post here. Your over-the-top warning to Clovermoss here was a completely unnecessary escalation and threat towards a good faith editor voicing concerns shared by many editors. You should just have said that in the future, if they wanted to reach all BoT members they should use the BoT noticeboard (of which they apparently weren't aware). Your post was infinitely worse than what Clovermoss did, and your replies (like "The constant messages are very much on the lines of POINT. " when each member was contacted once) are only putting oil on the flames you created in the first place.
You linked to "Respect is a basic rule for Meta", but your post showed zero respect for Clovermoss. Please don't take this approach again in the future. Fram (talk) 10:09, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
- Fram, if you want to change the Meta-Wiki practice, you are, by all means, welcome to propose such. But your, or Clover's, personal opinion suddenly does not change the way communication is done so on Meta-Wiki. When 6 Meta-Wiki admins agree with my message (all of whom deal with conduct on Meta-Wiki far more accustomed to dealing with Meta issues than some passer-by enwiki users do), the underlying point still remains. //shb (t • c) 10:18, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
- Your communication is completely at odds with the pages you use as a justification ("respect is a basic rule" used as a way to completely disrespect an editor. I don't really care about people closing ranks or pulling weight as "evidence" that what you did was correct, productive, or supported by the actual justification you used. If everyone from outside the Meta inner circle is so surprised and confused by these practices, then perhaps you should rethink them, and create a more welcoming, informative, one could even say civil atmosphere than the "we are sysops, you are to be treated as dirt" approach taken now.
- Your comment about "passer-by enwiki users" nicely sums up your attitude and the lack of perspective you seem to have. What do you think Meta is intended for?
- Respect may be a basic rule here, but respect is very easily lost and hard to gain, and usually not achieved by starting off with threatening, over-he-top messages when giving some gentle guidance hasn't been tried first. Fram (talk) 10:33, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
- Meta might be a coordination wiki, but it is you who seems to be mistaken on Meta's purpose when you use phrases like "Meta inner circle". Meta might be a wiki to have centralised discussions, but it is still a wiki with its own policies, community and practices. If the bulk of the regular Meta community agree with the premise of the message, then you should opt to change the practice, not vicariously pick a fight on those who enforce existing community practices. Anyway, what has been said has been said, either by me or by others on the RfH thread, so I will not be entertaining this discussion any further. //shb (t • c) 10:50, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
- Then please change your pages like the "Respect" one to actually reflect the "existing community practices" so "passer-by" don't get duped into believing that civility (or harassment or respect) have the same meaning here as they have in the wider world.
- "If the bulk of the regular Meta community agree with the premise of the message, then you should opt to change the practice": if the bulk of the non-regular community disagree with it, then some self-reflection beyond "this is how we do things here" may be warranted.
- As for "it is you who seems to be mistaken on Meta's purpose when you use phrases like "Meta inner circle". Meta might be a wiki to have centralised discussions, but it is still a wiki with its own policies, community and practices. ": that's not an actual answer at all, just an involuntary confirmation of my point. "Policies, community and practices" are never a purpose, they serve a purpose. Bullying and trying to scare away "passer-by" commenters may be practices, but they aren't the purpose and don't support the purpose either. Fram (talk) 11:12, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
- Anyway, what has been said has been said, either by me or by others on the RfH thread, so I will not be entertaining this discussion any further. There's no need to entertain this discussion further, but you could apologize to Clovermoss for the heavy-handedness. Assuming some good faith would be a good move, and could help turn down the volume a bit on a noisy situation. ~2026-43134-44 (talk) 20:42, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
- I mean...I'm sorry if my comment is seen that way, but you have to ultimately remember that Meta doesn't do warnings; none of this changed that what Clover did is not standard practice on Meta. //shb (t • c) 22:17, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
