Discord channel

[edit]
The following discussion is preserved as an archive of a closed Meta-Wiki request. Please do not modify it.

Per en:Wikipedia:Discord#Channels, I propose that a #strategy or #next25 public channel be created on Discord. The current #meta channel is relatively low traffic, but that channel could also be used for other topics and there seems to be enough interest in the Next 25 strategy initiative that a dedicated channel would make sense. Please !vote on one or both of the following

  1. Proposal 1: create a public #strategy channel in Discord
  • Support
  1. I'm fine with either option. ↠Pine () 20:43, 11 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
  2. More flexible in the long run than one centered on a specific initiative. Chaotic Enby (talk) 21:25, 11 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose
  1. I'm not sure there is an appetite for a "strategy" channel, as a lot of the momentum behind that is gone. - Fuzheado (talk) 01:16, 12 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

  1. Proposal 2: create a public #next25 channel in Discord

  1. I'm fine with either option. ↠Pine () 20:43, 11 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

  1. I'd request we not split off more conversations until there is a good reason for it. The "Next 25" designation is less than a week old, so it would be good to retain critical mass on the Telegram group for now. - Fuzheado (talk) 01:16, 12 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

  1. Second choice, a Discord channel is ideal, but I don't want discussions to be locked into a specific group. Chaotic Enby (talk) 21:25, 11 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, ↠Pine () 20:43, 11 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

There seems to be little interest in making an "official" Discord channel, so withdrawing my proposal for now. ↠Pine () 19:03, 25 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Post-Wikimania 2026 plans

[edit]

Hi @Schiste: what next steps are planned for this initiative? I'd be happy to have the August edition of the Wikimedia Café be a discussion of this initiative in general, or a specific component of it such as innovation, how to improve everyday decision-making in request for comments processes, or ideas for how to improve the inter-generational sustainability of open source including but not limited to Wikimedia projects. But eventually, discussion needs to move to action, and I'd be interested in any plans for specific proposals that could be enacted, if there are any yet. Thanks, ↠Pine () 18:09, 25 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
