Overview

The Tanzania chapter coordinates 3 active clubs and aims to:

  • Grow a generation of skilled Swahili and English Wikipedia editors
  • Train mentors and club leaders in editing, multimedia, Wikidata, and Kiwix
  • Build digital literacy and leadership among young Tanzanians aged 18–25
  • Connect local clubs with the East Africa Wikimedia community and the wider pilot network (Rwanda, Nigeria)

Eligibility and responsibilities

Participants must be youth aged 18–25 (university students, final-year secondary students, or community youth), commit to the full pilot period, and follow the Wikimedia Friendly Space Policy and Code of Conduct.

Trainers are expected to lead club sessions, support participants through each Quest, report progress to the country lead after every meeting, complete required Wikimedia training modules before kick-off, and uphold the Friendly Space Policy at all times.

Quest 1 — Building Club Identity

TaskEach club designed a name and logo from scratch, then produced a 2-minute pitch video explaining the concept, design process, and team collaboration. All work had to be created by club members without AI generation. Canva was the recommended design tool.

Quest 2 — Capture and Fill a Gap on Wikimedia

TaskClubs identified image gaps in Wikipedia articles on local culture, geography, or history. Each club member photographed and uploaded a minimum of 3 original photos to Wikimedia Commons, correctly licensed, categorised, and captioned. Clubs coordinated their topic selection, photography, and descriptions as a team.
