a volunteer-led training program designed to strengthen the technical community behind Wikimedia projects. It provides structured learning opportunities for contributors interested in developing technical skills that support the Wikimedia ecosystem.

The program covers a wide range of topics, including software and application development, Python programming, bots, scripts, tools, artificial intelligence, data querying and analytics, MediaWiki development, and free and open-source software. It serves both newcomers who want to begin contributing technically and experienced volunteers seeking to expand their skills and take on more advanced technical roles.

By building technical capacity within the community, the program aims to empower more contributors to create, maintain, and improve the technologies that support Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

Program Objectives

  • Build technical capacity within the Wikimedia community by providing accessible, structured training for volunteers.
  • Introduce newcomers to Wikimedia's technical ecosystem and pathways for technical contribution.
  • Develop practical skills in programming, automation, bots, scripts, software development, and MediaWiki software.
  • Train contributors to create, maintain, and improve tools and applications that support Wikimedia projects.
  • Promote the use and development of free and open-source software aligned with Wikimedia values.
  • Support learning in data analysis, querying, statistics, and AI for Wikimedia-related use cases.
  • Help intermediate and advanced contributors strengthen their technical expertise and become project maintainers or mentors.
  • Encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and peer learning within the Wikimedia technical community.
  • Increase the number of active volunteer developers contributing to Wikimedia's technical infrastructure.
