Wiki Workers United (WWU) je mezinárodní solidární odborový svaz pro zaměstnance nadace Wikimedia Foundation. WWU zastupuje lidi, kteří budují a udržují platformu a služby umožňující komunitám Wikimedie vytvářet a sdílet Wikipedii a další projekty Wikimedie se světem.

Moc komunity patří do rukou komunity.

Approach

WWU describes itself as global-first: the goal is an international union representing all WMF workers regardless of location or contract type. There is no mechanism to form an international union directly. There are two open requests for union recognition in the United States and the United Kingdom (through its Employer of Record) as of 20 July 2026.

WWU emphasises that a union need not be in constant opposition to management. The aim is collaborative, goal-oriented problem solving as the foundation of its partnership with WMF leadership.

Focus areas

WWU's stated focus areas include:

  • Improving transparency and accountability from WMF leadership toward both staff and movement communities
  • Ensuring staff have effective ways to provide input on policy changes and annual planning while decisions are still being deliberated
  • Preventing unclear or inconsistent hiring, firing, and promotion practices
  • Guaranteeing the ability to safely express dissent
  • Advocating for mental health support for frontline workers who interact directly with movement communities
  • Advocating for pay and benefits equity
  • Holding management accountable to commitments made to staff
