WikiConference India 2026 is the fourth edition of the national-level conference As the theme suggests for WCI 2026, "Reimagining the Knowledge Commons" - Community Leadership in an Evolving Wikimedia Ecosystem. for medicinal plants we can have Reimagining the Commons: Preserving Indigenous treasure of Medicinal Plants

    • Upload Media files

Aim

[edit]
  • To collect images of various medicinal plants in and around our surroundings.
  • Through scientific investigations of plant material, it contributes to biodiversity conservation.
  • It supports the recognition of indigenous knowledge systems.
  • Since ancient times, people have used plants to treat various diseases. Their healing properties have been recognised and used for generations.
  • We aim to preserve valuable ethnobotanical knowledge that is often transmitted only through oral traditions.

What can be done

[edit]
  • We need to start with intangible heritage as medicinal importance;
  • We are suggesting this since there is a gap in content and photos relating to medicinal herbs/plants on Wikimedia and other Wikimedia projects.
  • The main focus is to upload common plants that are endangered species. Participants are encouraged to collect the plants' photography around your city.
  • Our initiative also focuses on documenting the traditional knowledge of medicinal plants practiced by indigenous and tribal communities.
  • Video recordings based on interviews with traditional healers and community elders, photographs.

What we won't accept media that are:

[edit]

  • Which lacks EXIF information.
  • that are excessively processed and digitally altered.
  • Pornographic and explicit images.
  • Artwork due to copyright issues, etc.
