Hi @Community Tech bot, I don't think this page is still being updated, since there was a move of the wikiproject name, I hope it can be fixed, thanks, Oscar_. (talk) 04:07, 21 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Also wonder if/how to include new wikiprojects to this, like Puerto Rico? Oscar_. (talk) 21:43, 21 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
This can be resolved by admins on English Wikipedia. Per the top of this page: You can request changes by making a protected edit request on the configuration page. If your project is not updating, please refer to the troubleshooting tips.
If you believe there is an actual with the bot, please let us know here. Best, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 17:15, 17 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Most Edited Articles not updating

[edit]

@Community Tech bot (and maybe @MusikAnimal (WMF):), that page is close to a month since its last update. Any problems? Igordebraga (talk) 02:07, 18 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting us know! I have identified the issue and a fix is in the works. I'll reply here again once everything is back to normal. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 15:43, 18 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Disambig-Class articles -> Disambig-Class pages

[edit]

Could Community tech bot please be told to link to w:Category:Disambig-Class pages rather than w:Category:Disambig-Class articles in popular pages reports. Thanks. * Pppery * it has begun 21:08, 6 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Also w:Category:Redirect-Class pages rather than w:Category:Redirect-Class articles and w:Category:NA-Class pages rather than w:Category:NA-Class articles and w:Category:NA-importance articles to w:Category:NA-importance pages. * Pppery * it has begun 21:10, 6 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the delay. The data actually comes from xtools:api/project/assessments. I've updated the configuration and it will go out with the next XTools release, which I'll try to do in the next few days while I'm still around a computer (related: phab:E1926). It seems like MediaWiki:XTools-AutoEdits.json, which powers the config for xtools:autoedits, the page assessments config should probably live on-wiki, too. I can look into that when I return in March. It looks like enwiki is due for another cleanse of page assessment data in general, judging by quarry:query/100619. Annnnd a new release has been cut :) xtools:api/project/assessments/enwiki should be up-to-date now, and thus the next popular pages reports should use the right categories. MusikAnimal talk 20:51, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

On English Wikipedia, I've been experimenting with using popular pages reports (like the one for WikiProject Comics) to create Top 7 lists to use in portal space. This seems to work well. Are there any pitfalls I might be overlooking? Rjjiii (talk) 12:32, 24 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think this is fine for the purposes of a Lua module. The other option is to do all the preprocessing yourself, which shouldn't be done in Lua and would require a bot or something to write to a data module for Lua to consume. Of course, the module could break if we change the layout of the reports, but I am not aware of any plans to do this. So all in all, for what you're trying to do, this seems best and most certainly the easiest. It's also really useful! Nice work :) MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 03:16, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
We could have our bot also write to JSON subpage, which you could then use a data module. Probably a good idea regardless. If you care to create a task, I'll see if I can make time to implement it as it shouldn't be too hard. Note also phab:T141010 which would bring this data directly into AQS and make both of our lives easier, but it seems that never gained traction. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 03:20, 3 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! A JSON subpage sounds like a good idea, but I haven't written or maintained a bot before, so I wouldn't feel comfortable suggesting specific changes to one. Rjjiii (talk) 03:58, 6 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
This seems useful for front pages of WikiProjects as well. Thank you for developing this! StefenTower (talk) 19:33, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

WP Disability is the last one the bot updated. It seems to be running per its contribution history, but it's not filling in any reports in WikiProjects. StefenTower (talk) 16:51, 15 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Pinging MusikAnimal (WMF). The delay is building up on this. StefenTower (talk) 18:24, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's unfortunately abandonware at this point. I will still try to volunteer some time to diagnosing what's going wrong and see if I can get it fixed, but ultimately unless we have an interested volunteer take over as bot operator, the Popular Pages task is doomed. It was a mistake for this to be built as a bot in the first place.
We'll soon have a revamped Massviews tool that should handle processing larger WikiProjects in real-time. I imagine that would be better? It will still fail for many projects due to their sheer size, but for most it hopefully will work well enough, provided the user is willing to wait. phab:T141010 is the proper long-term solution. If you have a Phabricator account, I suggest awarding a "token" or leaving a comment expressing your desire for this data in the pageviews pipeline. MusikAnimal talk 22:18, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
