New Commons interwiki

Interwiki request: new

Status:    Not done
Sigh. It might be confusing because if you are on another Wikimedia wiki, then "COM:" will not work. Ahri Boy (talk) 01:22, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
@Ahri Boy, it definitely works if you do the rightway, it is similar to Wikipedia: namespace or Meta: namespace. For example, c:COM:Licensing or en:Wikipedia:Username policy, or similar. The interwiki replaces the url only before the page name starts. So wherever COM:/Commons: is in the page name, you have to enter it in following commons:/c: or whatever the interwiki is. As such Oppose Oppose, this request doesn't make sense to me. signed, Aafi (talk) 05:52, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
This doesn't make sense to me either. And the term "com" is heavily overloaded, including a conflict with the Comanche language given we're not supposed to have interwikis conflict with language codes. Not done * Pppery * it has begun 06:22, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

Tolkien Gateway

Interwiki request: new

Status:    Done
wikidata status:   Done

Tolkien Gateway is an established wiki about J.R.R Tolkien's legendarium. The site offers subject matter expertise that often fails Wikipedia's notability guidelines and is useful to provide external links to. The wiki's domain currently has over 1,000 global search results. It does not have any history of spam, vandalism, or malware. Continuously maintained for over two decades with the same URL's, very low chance of link rot. Similar existing interwikis include Wookieepedia, MemoryAlpha, WoWWiki, etc. --Hyarion (talk) 03:57, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

Added to the list. It will take a week or two for the next interwiki map deploy. * Pppery * it has begun 17:24, 25 January 2025 (UTC)

ReVo

Interwiki request: update

--LiMr (talk) 08:24, 6 March 2025 (UTC)

Some context to this request: One of the admins of ReVo asked if we could update the link. The old version leads to a static HTML page, the new ID-Based URL still works with the old page name variables, but in addition you can add more details like word endings to jump into the middle of a page. Plus the new variant of the website contains a menu with a search bar, much more context and a generally more modern website.
ReVo is the oldest free collaborative Esperanto Online dictionary and runs under an open MIT license. --Stefangrotz (talk) 21:37, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
Updated on Meta. This doesn't seem like an urgent request, so I'm going to let the next wiki creation (which normally happens once every few weeks) update the cached interwiki map on Gerrit rather than requesting an out-of-cycle deploy. * Pppery * it has begun 16:37, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
That's okay. Thanks for your help! 94.134.182.85 07:30, 8 March 2025 (UTC)

mailarchive

Interwiki request: update the url to the new format

Status:    Not done

Currently, links using mailarchive: are broken.

Example: mailarchive:list/wikitech-l@lists.wikimedia.org/message/NLHRDDZCMP6OTAMMOEYCKOUXUEW3OXJ2/

--Meno25 (talk) 17:07, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Not done Pipermail and hyperkitty links use a different format. This interwiki prefix predates the Mailman 3 upgrade so this would break the thousands of existing uses with the old format. listarchive: already exists for the new format. * Pppery * it has begun 17:44, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Single-letter prefix for Wikivoyage

Interwiki request: new

Status:    Not done

We all know how much single-letter prefixes for content projects are cherished. There are "only" ~650 usages of y: links, so I think it's worth considering. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 04:13, 15 September 2025 (UTC)

I object to this. It violates the fundamental principle to first, do no harm. Wikivoyage has survived for a decade without a single-letter prefix and it's unfair to the 13 wikis with articles on the comic book series Y: The Last Man to steal its title like that. You may be tempted to point to Wikifuncations as a counterargument, to which I would say the same thing; stealing that title prefix was unfair in the same way and caused problems that linger to this day. I won't make the same mistake again.
As a minor technical matter, single-later prefixes work in a special way which is hardcoded on Gerrit, rather than being maintained in Interwiki map/list, so this would need a Phabricator task. But again, I continue to oppose stealing pre-existing titles by adding new interwiki prefixes, for the same reasons, regardless of where that stealing is done. * Pppery * it has begun 18:52, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for the information. In that case, I'm withdrawing this proposal as per SNOW. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 19:33, 20 September 2025 (UTC)

@Pppery: On second thought, noc collides with the language code of Nuk. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 19:45, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
Oh, well. I've removed that from the list for now, happy to add it with a different prefix that does not collide with something else. * Pppery * it has begun 22:53, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
Maybe prepend "w" to both, so wnoc and wnoch? —Locke Coletc 23:39, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
@Pppery and Locke Cole: How about wmnoc and wmnoch? We already have wmdoc, which points to doc.wikimedia.org and does not collide with the language code of Kam. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 00:00, 21 September 2025 (UTC)

Account Creation Interface

Interwiki request: new

Status:    Done
wikidata status:   In progress

ACC is a tool used on enwiki (and occasionally by stewards) to review requests by users to create an account for them when they are unable to. It is used in talk pages and various logs, as well as every single account created through the interface, e.g. here. DatGuy (talk) 20:46, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

"acc" as a language code is a deprecated code for Cubulco Achí, which was merged into Achi (acr) in 2008. I think that means we don't have to worry about language code conflicts. There don't seem to be any mainspace titles on any wiki this would conflict with. Looks fine to add to me, but I'll leave this for a week or two to allow for other comments before doing so. * Pppery * it has begun 00:18, 4 October 2025 (UTC)

Single-letter prefix for Wiktionary

Interwiki request: new

Status:    Not done

Same as the above. Possible choices:

NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 04:13, 15 September 2025 (UTC)

I object to this for the same reason as the section above - all of these conflict with too many other things to be worth the chaos now to solve a problem that has been around for ages with no strong cry to solve. If you must do this "i", "o", and "r" are least-bad (I and R have namespace prefix uses on special wikis but that doesn't matter because namespace prefixes conflicting with interwikis are a supported concept) * Pppery * it has begun 19:08, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
