Isn't this project obsolete with automated translation powered by LLMs?

[edit]

These "abstract" articles would require an immense amount of work to create, at a time when volunteer time is in short supply across the WMF's projects. It is also entirely unnecessary, since LLMs can now do the work automatically. Why hasn't this project been dropped? Un assiolo (talk) 20:06, 23 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I also think the browser integrated translation is already doing the job Abstract Wikipedia wants to fulfill. I doubt there can be any automated translation tools at the moment that grasp the individual nuances, or that language is universally translatable from one to another. If someone finds the time for this functional writing, it still sounds like an interesting project. Pragma124 (talk) 11:12, 31 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I don't remotely consider LLMs to have obsoleted anything here, they frequently hallucinate during translation including creating unrelated content whole cloth. They can serve a role, but basically as an assist for someone that already speaks both languages. Mathiastck (talk) 23:53, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
