  • Personal info: I participate in Wikimedia projects since the middle of 2006. I have sysop rights on the Russian Wikipedia (home wiki) and Wikimedia Commons. I'm a member of OTRS team. Also, I have a bot, and I translate info and system pages on Meta and Betawiki into Russian. There was no need in this permission before, but now we have no Russian stewards. Firstly, I'm planing to work with SUL and usurpation problems and requests for rights. Also, I will not forget about reverting of cross-wiki vandalism and spam. I spend a significant part of the day at the computer, and I am available via e-mail and IRC.

  20. I don't think forcing one to move to another wiki to something they don't want to, solely so they can get access to something they want to (and are able to) do, is a good idea. He seems competent enough. Giggy 04:17, 1 February 2009 (UTC)reply
  21. Even I don't like the fact that he didn't answer to any question, we really need stewards with active knowledge of Russian. Answer to Lar's comment here: I have very good passive knowledge of Russian, which means that I may communicate without problems with Russians who know to read English (or Serbian). However, there are a lot of existing language editions of WM projects (languages from former USSR) -- and much more to be created -- where the only known language (besides the local one) by those people is Russian. In such cases I am not very helpful. --Millosh 04:36, 1 February 2009 (UTC)reply

So, putnik is a co-founder of the fund that you chair? This does not sound good because of a possible conflict of interest. I remember that :ru:User:Udacha who dared to criticize your fund was indefinitely blocked at ru.wikipedia.org -- an obvious conflict of interests. Very possibly similar conflicts will happen if putnik is elected. Does he gain personal income from the operations of your fund? SA ru 15:26, 16 February 2009 (UTC)reply

  3. We do have Millosh at ru-2 and Paginazero at ru (but we may well lose Paginazero due to inactivity) so we are not completely Ru-less... but yes, ru is an important language to have coverage in. Also good availability and approach. That said... did not respond to questions, which is concerning, and may be somewhat inexperienced, having never had any bits other than admin near as I can tell. ++Lar: t/c 03:07, 1 February 2009 (UTC)reply
If you read his statement more carefully, you’ll see that the candidate is an experienced OTRS member. — Kalan ? 03:27, 1 February 2009 (UTC)reply
I did notice that, and consider OTRS experience helpful as a sign of trust by the foundation (if not by communities, since it's granted by WMF representatives) but I don't count it as a "bit" like 'crat, OV, or CU... I think getting at least one of those really shows that some community trust is in place... The not responding to questions is a deal breaker for me, at least for now. ++Lar: t/c 03:30, 1 February 2009 (UTC)reply
Community of Russian Wikipedia is reluctant to give such flags: a significant portion of opposes is commented like “I trust this user, but we already have enough of these”. Oversights and checkusers are appointed by the arbitration committee (checkusers write a request when they have a consensus that they need some reinforcement), where Putnik has refused to participate because he is interested primarily in other activities rather than dealing with local issues of this kind. — Kalan ? 03:41, 1 February 2009 (UTC)reply
There are other wikis where one can contribute besides ru:wp. Commons always welcomes hard workers and can always use people with language skills other than english. I shan't belabor this point further but I am not against reevaluating my opinion as the election progresses, if it's warranted, and assuming I am not badgered too hard. ++Lar: t/c 03:45, 1 February 2009 (UTC)reply

  10. oppose. I am not sure, that he can be a stable reliable steward. He has really a good contribution as a sysop of ru-wiki, but he (1) has difficulty to find contacts with collegues, therefore he prefers to initiate a conflict without attemp to start a discussion. In the sommer of 2008 [1] he was initiated a large Wheel war because of it.(2) He tried also leave the project; it was written on his talk pages that he has no interest to the Wikipedia project. (3) I am afraid, that he should not be able to keep friendly and enough diplomatic communication with users from 100 different wiki-projects worldwide, because of very poor communication skill inside russian wiki. TheNeon 21:11, 1 February 2009 (UTC)reply
If you are writinig about putnik's "difficulty to find contacts with collegues" how would you explain that 12 Russian sysops (1/5 of total number), including 2 checkusers (one of them an arbiter) are voting for him? "The large wheelwar" you are mentioning wouldn't even be a wheelwar by English Wikipedia standarts. 2)Those who did not try at some point to leave Wikipedia can throw a stone at putnik - I can't.3) Being a Commons sysop he's already in contact with wikipedians from a hundred different countries and no complaints so far.--Mstislavl 21:51, 1 February 2009 (UTC)reply
It is actually good that you mentioned these checkusers. Kv75 and DR, right? I've caught both in falsifications. They attributed to me some accounts that did not have any intersections with my IP addresses (and I gave them my IP). I do not think that having checkusers who make false statements vote for this guy, putnik, makes his case stronger. Do you? SA ru 15:01, 6 February 2009 (UTC)reply

Lvova 14:33, 3 February 2009 (UTC)reply

A note about :ru:User:Obersachse who is campaigning here for Putnik. He indeed was one of the participants of the sysop war with Putnik, and it was concluded that they both violated the rules. The support of another rule violator is hardly a valid argument. Curiously, Obersachse's sysop flag was recently removed for yet another violation. Obersachse also deleted the article "Putin's kiss of the boy Nikita" (an event quoted in many books) with the following argumentation: "What if somebody else kissed Nikita on the stomach, not Putin? Deleted". After all that, I doubt that Obersachse's endorsement of Putnik is very strong. SA ru 23:55, 5 February 2009 (UTC)reply

  24. Strong oppose. Currently, there are obviously wars between sysop&area clans in Russian Wiki (look at this (rus) and this(rus), for instance), with all sides using flashmob tactics, that flare up tensions. Moreover, it turns out that registered user accounts of most tough and distinguished sysops may at the same time be located on one the same computer with accounts of most noxious vandals that are indefinitely blocked (and there is nothing done to cover that blackhole). Therefore, I strongly suggest to elect NOBODY from Russian Wiki as a steward until the situation is improved (half year maybe), because this would clearly be a threat to the whole Wiki Project. Sorry. Nickpo 11:38, 5 February 2009 (UTC)reply
Sorry, your generalization is not correct. Your links are arbitration cases related to one sysop. And of course flashmob tactics can not be useful in arbitration cases. Your statement about vandals concerns the same sysop. So there is no reason for generalization. And last but not least, the candidate is not related to these incidents. Kv75 12:29, 5 February 2009 (UTC)reply
Sorry, his generalization is correct. For example, you are a checkuser at ru.wiki, and you falsified the results of your inquiry this summer by attributing me an account that did not belong to me. The same story repeated recently; you participated again. Putnik is not as bad as you. He did not falsify anything, but he stalked JukoFF, and he signed an attack letter. He cannot be trusted. SA ru 23:36, 5 February 2009 (UTC)reply
Up to you of course, but to me (as a ru.wp admin) this looks like blatant overgeneralization. I am pretty sure my account is not located on any computer used by any blocked users (or, to this end, any ru.wp users at all). I am not aware of any indications that the candidate uses (or have ever used) a shared account, quite the opposite.--Yaroslav Blanter 12:52, 5 February 2009 (UTC)reply
