Global rollback for Hazard-SJ

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I have been aiding with fighting crosswiki vandalism for a while now (and have joined SWMT), and have tagged many pages for deletion (I know gr doesn't make this any easier) and reverted many edits (would be much easier with the gr flag).  Hazard-SJ  ±  07:04, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Closed as not done. There is no consensus at this moment to add Hazard-SJ in the global rollback group. Among the risen concerns, your behaviour as a sysop on testwiki has been quoted, so I think you need to convince the community that they won't take a big risk if they decide to add you in this global group. Global rollback for Marcus Qwertyus

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I'm an active vandal fighter on en.wikipedia and Commons though what I really need this tool for is the autoconfirmed status that comes with it.

I perform page moves in uncontroversial cases on en.wikipedia. In addition to the 2000 moves I've made on my own, I've initiated several hundred requested moves, and several hundred speedy deletion requests related to moves.

I need autoconfirmed status to move pages on other wikis in uncontroversial cases (e.g. a company changes its name, or the title is simply incorrect (like here)). Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 21:53, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Oppose no This is not what global rollback is intended for. It is intended for use in fighting vandalism only. In addition local projects object to certain permissions of global rollback being used locally. An example that would be related to your case is the suppressredirect right which allows moves without leaving a redirect. If you did that on enwiki without being a local admin you'd be falling foul of their policies. fr33kman 22:38, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
I don't see why a minor technicality should disqualify me. It suits the purpose and I don't plan on suppressing any redirects. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 23:07, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
  • Oppose per Fr33kman. Global rollback is intended for combating global vandalism, not becoming autoconfirmed on all wikis. Furthermore, your request reason is rather vague - it seems that you need this for on enwiki, except you should be autoconfirmed there already... or could at least request the confirmed flag. Ajraddatz (Talk) 22:57, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
I already have rollback on enwiki, commons, etc. I need it for the other languages as well. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 23:07, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Really? You have very few global contributions outside of those projects, and no counter-vandalism that I see. How can I tell if you will be able to revert past language barriers when you have no experience to show it? That's a rhetorical question, I can't judge until you get lots of counter-vandalism experience past language barriers. Ajraddatz (Talk) 23:21, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
As I said, I'm not using it for counter-vandalism. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 23:24, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Have you read Global rollback? Global rollback is a user group assigned by stewards to trusted users which lets them easily rollback edits that are blatantly counterproductive, like vandalism and nonsense, on all Wikimedia wikis. - your intended use of the global rollback tool does not fall within the allowed uses of the global rollback tool. The Helpful One 23:26, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Echoing what Thehelpfulone has just said, the rights other than "rollback" which are included in the group are simply to make the task of reverting easier. Autoconfirmed (and other rights) are included so that global rollbackers aren't stopped by captchas, rate limits, page protections, etc when reverting vandalism on wikis that they haven't edited before. The group is not intended to grant global autoconfirmed with rollback as a side effect - it is intended for the exact opposite. Ajraddatz (Talk) 23:30, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
  • &  This request is not within the purpose of the Global rollback tool and policy. I feel this is the wrong avenue to request this, as even if everybody here wanted you to have autoconfirmed status like this, we'd have to go and change the policy to let you have it. As it stands, this request falls outside of the scope of the Global rollback tool and policy and should not be fullfilled Snowolf How can I help? 23:35, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Technicalities aside, can anyone name one good reason why you wouldn't want to give an experienced editor editing privileges that will make his life a hell of a lot easier? Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 23:38, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Yes - you may be an experienced editor on the English Wikipedia, however that does not mean that you have experience on wikis in other languages. Global rollback gives a user access to some tools that could be very easily misused on every Wikimedia project. If this were assigned to people who don't know what they are doing in any language, then the potential that they would misuse the rights is very high. That is why people requesting this right only pass the request if they have lots of experience in global counter-vandalism - that demonstrates to us that they know what they are doing outside of their native language. All of this pales in comparison to the fact that you are dismissing the policy surrounding these rights as a "technicality". I would never support someone who isn't willing to follow the policies surrounding the rights they request. Ajraddatz (Talk) 23:42, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm would only be using move rights in uncontroversial situations. The examples I highlighted above (especially the second one) have universal naming conventions. Obviously every wiki wants you to fix a wrong title. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 23:56, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
The fact that you consider a global policy a technicality is rather worrisome. Also naming conventions can hardly be called universal. Snowolf How can I help? 23:59, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Fixing typos is a universal naming convention. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 00:07, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
OK, to use a real example, say you came across the page "Università d'Cile" on a small wiki. It must be moved, but what should it be moved to? Again, the rights in global rollback are intended for counter-vandalism, not editorial actions. The move right is included there so that pagemove vandalism can be reverted. Ajraddatz (Talk) 00:03, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
Wait. Why does it need to be moved? Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 00:06, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
I don't know. You are the one talking about global naming conventions, and this is an example of how they can not exist. All I know is that this was an actual page which was renamed on a small wiki. Ajraddatz (Talk) 00:08, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
Is this a straw man argument or what? Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 00:18, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
Not done sorry but global rights are a sort of "pact" between meta and the other Wikis: and we cannot assign right out of their scope or in order to let people circumvent local flag requests. --Vituzzu (talk) 00:09, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Many of you have seen me around the various language wikis fighting multi-account cross-wiki spam-vandalism. Global rollback for PiRSquared17

I'm here to propose that PiRSquared be granted global rollback. He's an active and dedicated SWMT participant who's been doing a great job and we'd all benefit if his work is made easier by the global rollback toolset. It is customary that the user request the tools himself, but PiR's been reluctant to do so, so I'm publicly and shamelessly cornering him by filing this request (:P), I hope he accepts it :) Snowolf How can I help? 03:03, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Comment Hi Velimir, I'd just like to explain what global rollback is for you, as I think that you might be slightly confused. From Global rollback, Global rollback is a user group assigned by stewards to trusted users which lets them easily rollback edits that are blatantly counterproductive, like vandalism and nonsense, on all Wikimedia wikis.. Therefore, this user group is assigned to users who are active in reverting vandalism across multiple Wikimedia wikis (this is also referred to as cross-wiki). It's not to say that we don't believe that you have experience fighting vandals and you would like to help to fight them, it's just that from this tool and this tool you can see that you have not actually made many edits to revert vandalism or similar edits on wikis in the whole Wikimedia project. If you'd like to help fight cross-wiki vandalism, feel free to join the Small Wiki Monitoring Team. I hope you now understand what the purpose of the Global rollback user right is. The Helpful One 01:25, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
I understand that but we explain it all put me opposite. It is not fair to them was to support the privileges so they get and they do not give it to anyone. -- Velimir Ivanovic talk 07:11, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
I do not have to be a global rollback but there are ways to solve all this in a very nice and polite manner. I see that you are not right I am a Serb, but what to do. I was very unpleasantly surprised by some users and a site administrator. -- Velimir Ivanovic talk 09:17, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
I don't see why you are surprised. Obviously you don't have much cross-wiki experience and it is the main reason why no one supports you (so far). I'm also a Serb and I share the opinion of other users. You don't need this tool. mickit 09:27, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Global rollback for Dipankan001

{{status|not done}} I withdraw my request. I will work in more wikis and gain more experience. I'd be coming after 6 months per prepared.

Hello. I'm asking for the global rollback because there are a large number of projects; which have no tools developed for rollback; not even in Commons. It is a great difficulty to undo and revert vandalism and other problematic edits without the use of the rollback tool. Thanks. Dipankan001 (talk) 04:53, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Oppose strong oppose Does not meet policy requirements. You have very little crosswiki experience which doesn't need GR right. This is for rollback. I have reverted more than 250+ vandalism using the rollback tool. Yes, lot of people say those. Looking back at my past edits is one of the things I would not like. However, people think that I may be gaming the system, or, worse that I don't understand that WP is not a MMORPG. See my file moves @enwiki : 1, 2, and 3. I have also many rename requests, see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12,13, 14. I also use the rollback tool efficiently and handle it with care. I had recently asked few admins to review me, and I got positive reviews there. Wikipedia:Editor review/Dipankan001. Thanks. Dipankan001 (talk) 05:26, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Global rollback for Frigotoni

Hi. After my last attempt (on October), I try again to ask GR tool. I mostly active every day on #cvn-swconnect and I waited some other time and gained more experience in undoing vandalism/spam link etc. I'd like to say that before requesting GR I've also tried Twinkle and Popup and I felt good. GR would improve the velocity of the operation so I believe it could be useful to better fight vandalism. Rollbacker on it.wiki/en.wiki and administrator on vec.wiki (the latter is my main project in this moment since I spend more time there), feel free to ask me some questions, if you want. Thank you anyway.-- Frigotoni ...i'm here; 17:41, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

  • I have the impression that the user has matured over the last few months, since his previous requests end November and early October. The user seems active in the GR scope, and has experience with the rollback. Therefore, I support, as GR will be useful to him and the concerns raised in the past requests have not repeated themselves (as far as I know). Savhñ 17:52, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
Done there is clear consensus that Frigotoni has been active in cross wiki countervandalism, the only written requirement laid out in the Global rollback policy. While there are concerns about Frigotoni's behaviour in the past, the majority seem to consider it less relevant as granting the user this countervandalism tool can cause little harm. Global sysop for Ruy Pugliesi

Not to be closed before 02:19, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi, everyone.

As a member of the SWMT since November 2010, I can be easily found on IRC in the related countervandalism channels. I'm used to fight (cw-)vandalism and tag nonsense / spam / out-of-scope content for quick-deletion on several projects (verify cw-edits) and, when suitable, I list them on Steward requests/Speedy deletions/Bot-reported. On June 2011, I was granted the global rollbacker flag. Since then, I am quit active on this job. Once I have time to patrol Wikimedia projects, I think it would be useful to have global sysop feature, because this toolkit should make countervandalism easier. As you can see, I'm already experienced with administrative tools on some small wikis: mediawikiwiki (verify - contribs - logs), enwikiversity (verify - contribs - logs), hiwiki (verify - contribs - logs), Wikimedia Strategic Planning (verify - contribs - logs). (I'm also a sysop on metawiki and ptwiki).

So, in this way, I believe I could help a bit more having global sysop right. Furthermore, by having administrator rights on some small wikis, I understand that this tool (GS) should be used carefully and only when there is no local users to do it in time. I'm also aware of the set of wikis where Global Sysops do not have access, and I always check that before asking for a steward to act in some situations, when I'm monitoring small wikis and there is no local sysops available over there. :D If someone intends to ask me any question, feel free to do that.

Thanks for your attention. Ruy Pugliesi 02:19, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Answer: Hello, Tiptoepty. The ombudsman commission, according to one of its members, has stated that they have not found any privacy violations and recommended that the local arbcom additionally checked the reasoning of the CU checks. The Arbitration Committee (ptwiki) was extinguished per community vote due to the inactivity of its members in January 2012 and then, the case you mentioned above, was closed at the same time. However, one arbitrator has also told me that they (those who were not inactive at all) haven't found any privacy violation or misuse of the checkuser tool so far. Thanks for your question, Ruy Pugliesi 11:45, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Answer: Global sysops are basically "local sysops intended to perform only antivandalism and routine maintenance in many small wikis where there is not enough local administrators to do it in time" (and even in these wikis, other activities should be done by local users). Well, I'm a SWMT member since November 2010... So, I'm planning to to with GS basically the same things I currently do. However, having the GS flag would make my job much easier and faster, once I wouldn't need to ask a steward or a global sysop to block vandals in emergency situations or to delete pages in all small wikis that are not listed here, most of times. Blocking crosswiki vandals /spammers and deleting vandalism/spam/nonsense/hoax/test pages are certainly included in the countervandalism duties/possibilities of a GS. I am someone who only seeks rights when I feel I am in a position to use them (& I drop them when I am not!). The past few weeks have brought a big increase in cross wiki spam junk and I find myself increasingly dropping speedy tags on stuff on (to me) obscure) wikis. I'll understand if folk feel that I am only more recently active (again) in cross wiki issues but it seemed sensible to see if folk feel it might benefit smaller projects if I could deal with junk more easily.

Global sysop for Vigorous action

Hi, I'm Vigorous action. I'm active in SWMT and Japanese Projects. And I have Sysop/CU/Oversight/Bureaucrat flag in jawp, Sysop flag in jaws,jawb,jawv(temp-sysop) . I request global sysop flag. When vandalism appears to a small project, the block of local sysop is slow. In that case, I request the block of vandalism from stewards or global sysops. However, case and it which are not blocked may be slow. Meanwhile, vandalism continues, and many pages are damaged. If I have global sysop right, I will think that the block to them can be performed quickly. In addition, in wikis in SWMT, I think that I can reduce damage. Thanks--Vigorous action (talk) 10:29, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Weak oppose. — While I don't doubt you are trusted, your cross-wiki activity at the moment is quite limited to only Japanese projects, and globally creating your user page. Looking at your global contributions, I can't see many undo's, and even less in gs-wikis. In your SUL, there are many projects with 2/3 edits, but most of them turn out to be on the userpage, and only a minority are deleted. Excluding Japanese and other large projects, you haven't got more than 7 edits in any gswiki. I would like to see more experience and more involvement in cross-wiki SWMT work before supporting this request. Savhñ 10:42, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

How many English projects are within SWMT? -- Lavallen (talk) 14:33, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
The question is not how many English language projects are monitored by the SWMT. The problem is that English is something like the "working language" for people with global rights. All (or almost all) communications happen in English. If someone has a question, they ask in English, if an action needs to be discussed, this usually happens in English. Without some (good) English knowledge, all this gets really hard and probably leads to misunderstandings. People with such rights should be able to explain their actions if needed. -Barras talk 14:50, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

  • & , regretful oppose. While I've personally seen the good work you do on jawiki, I fail to see how one can be a global sysop while speaking only one, not widely spoken (here that is) language. While you list yourself as en-2, I really don't see how your command of the English Language is workable enough for you to handle inquiries from local communities and blocked users about your actions. I reject the idea that a working knowledge of English is required to be granted global flags, but at least a working knowledge of one of the more widely spoken (onwiki) languages should be, and sadly I don't think that this is the case here. Others have pointed to lack of crosswiki activity, and that should probably taken into account as well, but takes a backseat for me to the previously detailed concern. Closed as not done. There is no consensus at this moment to add とある白い猫 in the global editinterface group. Regards, — Mikhailov Kusserow (talk) 14:22, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Global editinterface for SPQRobin

I have granted SPQRobin temporary access to work on MediaWiki fixes, to expire in a few days. Since this is a very temporary request there seemed little need to undergo formal voting, especially as SPQRobin has a long track-record in global maintenance. --PeterSymonds (talk) 20:15, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Although it might still be useful, I promised to have it only a few days, so please remove it :) SPQRobin (talk) 02:56, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Removed as you requested. Snowolf How can I help? 02:58, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Please consider requesting it on a more permanent basis; I'm sure you'll be an excellent interface editor! PeterSymonds (talk) 12:23, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for EB44

Because of the block I can neither create nor edit articles on my wikipedia (in italian) account. I was already a victim (among many other users) of such blocking action in october 2011. Please, unblock very soon,

Secondly I ask you please to make the present meta project in all languages because in most countries the english is not ooficial language and takes time to translate what you shall read.

thanks, --EB44 (talk) 15:59, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Please provide more details about the blocked IP (range) that you are on. You may email it to any stewards or to stewards@wikimedia.org directly to keep it private. Bencmq (talk) 11:47, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Ben, I'm on it.
--Vituzzu (talk) 13:17, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
