This page is for Wikimedia wikis having no active administrators. Requests can be made here for specific administrative actions (such as page deletion) to be performed by a steward or global sysop. In other cases:
  • If the wiki does have active administrators, file the request with one of them.
  • If the wiki has an active editor community, any potentially controversial action (deletion of actual content, edit to a protected page, renaming of a protected page, etc.) should receive consensus from the wiki community before being requested here, and a link should be provided to that consensus in the request.
  • For global lock/block requests, file a request at Steward requests/Global.
  • For non-controversial deletion requests such as empty page, simple spam or vandalism, and non-controversial or emergency requests to block vandals, spammers or other malicious users, you may use global sysop requests instead.
  • If a consensus is considered required to act, similar principles apply as expressed at Steward requests/Permissions/Minimum voting requirements, and can be used for guidance to how and what should be done at small and medium communities to gain a consensus.

To add a new request, create a new section header at the bottom of the "Manual requests" section using the format below:

=== Very brief description of request here ===
{{Status|In progress}}
Give details about your request here. --~~~~

It is helpful if you can provide a link to the wiki (or the specific page on the wiki) in question, either in the header or in the body of your request.

When reporting cross-wiki vandalism, the following template calls can be used to link to a user's contributions across all Wikimedia content wikis (these are for logged in users and non-logged-in users, respectively):

* {{sultool|Username}}

* {{luxotool|IP.address}}

Template {{LockHide}} can also be used in appropriate cases.

To request approval of OAuth consumers please use {{oauthapprequest}} (see the documentation before using).

Old requests are archived by the date of their last comment.

Manual requests

Cleaning up unused files

Status:    In progress

Hi! This is not an ordinary request to do something but a suggestion for a project to clean up in unused files. In the RFC from 2016 "Disable local uploads on smaller wikis" someone wrote that "Smaller wikis are typically a graveyard of copyrighted content".

Files can only be hosted on a wiki if they meet the requirements in wmf:Resolution:Licensing_policy so all unused non-free files and files without a license or source/author should be fixed or deleted.

There are 868 wikis and it is almost impossible for one person to check them all. So I made a list in User:MGA73/UnusedFiles with the 320 wikis that have unused files.

My idea is that if someone would like to help check they go to a random wiki and check the files:

  • If the files are good they move them to Commons or ignore them
  • If the files are bad they fix them, delete them or tag them with no license etc.
  • Once a wiki is checked the wiki is removed from the list

The format of the list is this:

Wiki Files
https://af.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:UnusedFiles 574
https://als.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:UnusedFiles 67
https://ang.wikiquote.org/wiki/Special:UnusedFiles 1
https://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:UnusedFiles 6

But it can be changed if anyone have a better idea.

Depending on how many would like to help it could take weeks or months to complete. So if there is a better place for this notice let me know. --MGA73 (talk) 12:11, 28 March 2025 (UTC)reply

I also made a list of files that are also on Commons if someone like to clean up those: c:User:MGA73/CommonsDupes
But if you prefer to keep this page clean you are welcome to close this request and put it to the archive. If any one would like to work on this they can just "bookmark" the post in the archive. --MGA73 (talk) 18:12, 19 May 2025 (UTC)reply

Test to move files from German Wikibooks to Commons

Status:    In progress

When I try to export b:de:Datei:Einführung in die Fotografie.pdf to Commons I get the message:

  • "The 4 file versions you are currently trying to import exceed the file size limit the import can handle."

My theory is that if we delete two of the versions then it is possible to export the file to Commons. In order to get all the files to Commons we need someone who can delete files on both German Wikibooks and on Commons. So I would like to ask if a steward can do this:

  1. Delete two of the versions on German Wikibooks
  2. Export the file to Commons and delete the file on Commons
  3. Delete the file on German Wikibooks and restore the two other versions
  4. Export the file to Commons
  5. Delete the file on Commons and restore all versions
  6. Either delete the file on German Wikibooks or restore everything again.

Either it works or it does not. The only local admin on German Wikibooks that works on files have limited time and suggested to ask Global Sysops for help with files but since neither German Wikibooks or Commons are GS-wikis we need a steward. I'm an admin on Commons but it will be much easier if the same person can work on both wikis. --MGA73 (talk) 18:43, 31 May 2025 (UTC)reply

Looking at this for a moment. — xaosflux Talk 18:45, 31 May 2025 (UTC)reply
May revisit when I have more time. Still open if someone else wants to work on this. @MGA73 are you comfortable that the declared license applies to the entire work, don't want to deal with this if it is going to be deleted on commonswiki. — xaosflux Talk 18:53, 31 May 2025 (UTC)reply
I think it is okay. It's like on Wikipedia that the text has one license and the files may have another license. There is a note under each photo in the file and in the back of the pdf there are information about author and license. --MGA73 (talk) 19:01, 31 May 2025 (UTC)reply

Requesting closure of RFC

Status:    In progress

Requesting closure of Requests for comment/Should paid editing as a CU be allowed by a steward! The RFC has been open for almost a month and discussion has slowed down. -- Sohom (talk) 15:25, 25 July 2025 (UTC)reply

One months is quite a short time for an RfC on meta, I don't think there's harm in keeping it open for longer, there are new comments coming in every couple of days. Johannnes89 (talk) 15:44, 29 July 2025 (UTC)reply
It's been open for long enough for the consensus to become clear. That's all that matters. * Pppery * it has begun 16:26, 2 August 2025 (UTC)reply
Yes, it is obvious, that the community isn't willing to accept a paid editor with elevated permissions. No more new information is to be expected. --Beobachtungsliste23 (talk) 07:09, 8 August 2025 (UTC)reply
I might be biased but I think some valid concerns were raised in the Yes, it is compatible section as well and they are not to be disregarded. A09|(pogovor) 08:40, 8 August 2025 (UTC)reply
It's probably high time to do this, the last input was on 19th August. Sohom (talk) 23:20, 16 September 2025 (UTC)reply

Cross-wiki COI editing 2

A group of accounts and IPs have been creating various articles on many wikis about Klez Brandar, who was determined to be non-notable by frwiki users.

List of articles (from Klez Brandar (Q110963274)) and contributors (also see their corresponding IPContributions/GlobalContributions/GUC):

In particular, the following IP range has been active recently:

Considering vi:Klez Brandar, these articles are likely machine translations if not LLM-generated. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 07:43, 2 October 2025 (UTC)reply

Hello @NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh,
Thanks for letting us know about this. I opened a discussion in the Breton Wikipedia and we will handle this locally. The Breton Wikipedia notability criteria are not the same as the French ones, especially for topics related to Brittany. Huñvreüs (talk) 08:00, 2 October 2025 (UTC)reply

Global locking, checkusering, and nuking needed for socks of Thiscouldbeauser/Te Reo Ahitereiria

Status:    In progress

These are the ones I've found:

This is in line with actions taken against Jenneens (talk • contribs • block • xwiki-contribs • xwiki-date (alt • mw) • CA • gblock • xwiki blocks • SC • lwcheckuser) on this LTA by SHB2000. I hope I'm in the right place; I put my request here because it ideally requires all sorts of actions by people with all sorts of userrights. Thanks! Graham87 (talk) 19:34, 8 October 2025 (UTC)reply

Hello,
I have just seen my username mentioned in this global locking request. I would like to clarify that I am not related to any of the users listed, and I only have one account, which is Nassimdz03.
I edit in several Wikipedia languages because I enjoy sharing accurate information about Algeria in different linguistic communities. My goal has always been to improve small or missing articles about Algerian topics, never to vandalize or misuse multiple accounts.
Sometimes I create short pages in languages I do not fully master, using simple and verifiable information, but I always try to respect the local language structure and guidelines.
I have never used sockpuppets, and I always edit from the same computer and network.
Please check my contribution history — you will see that my edits are consistent and made in good faith.
If there are any issues with language quality, I am happy to cooperate or correct them.
Thank you for your understanding.
Best regards, Nassimdz03 (talk) 21:25, 8 October 2025 (UTC)reply
@Nassimdz03: I'm sorry for any distress caused. As for the other accounts, the smoking gun was this page history on enwp, in particular this edit, which used a template created by Thiscouldbeauser (whose premise is fairly nonsensical). Graham87 (talk) 09:42, 9 October 2025 (UTC)reply
@Graham87 Thank you for clarifying, and I appreciate your apology. I understand your point. Nassimdz03 (talk) 13:51, 9 October 2025 (UTC)reply
I've changed this request to use better templates and also cross-posted it (listing only the accounts I'm sure of) at Steward requests/Global#Global lock for Te Reo Ahitereiria socks. Graham87 (talk) 03:57, 10 October 2025 (UTC)reply
Thank you for your research, Graham87. I noticed that some of these accounts are blocked on Wikidata for abusing multiple accounts, but many projects do not treat this as a serious issue, and users blocked as socks on one project often continue editing elsewhere without problems. Unless their behaviour becomes clearly disruptive, action might not be necessary. It would be helpful if you could share diffs or behavioural evidence showing vandalism, promotional activity, or other disruptive editing across projects. The list of accounts is quite dense, so a bit more context and clarification would make it easier to review. – DreamRimmer 11:28, 25 October 2025 (UTC)reply
@DreamRimmer: The first user mentioned in the header, Te Reo Ahitereiria, is a globally locked long-term abuser whose modus operandi is to disruptively obsess over relatively obscure languages (in such quantities that they can't possibly know all or even a handful of them) and these days, they seem to create articles in these languages using machine translation. When challenged, they resort to bullying and disruption (it's a while since I've last encountered them, so I don't immediately know where the relevant diffs are). I notice that, per this page history on Wikidata, WikiBayer and [[Llywelyn2000 have deleted some of their articles; thanks for that. I believe {{InuktutAdditionsWiki (talk • contribs • block • xwiki-contribs • xwiki-date (alt • mw) • CA • gblock • xwiki blocks • SC • lwcheckuser) is also the same person.
