The Wikimedia Europe Strategy 2030 is organised as a suite of complementary documents. This allows each workstream to articulate its own strategic logic while remaining connected through a shared organisational approach. Together, these documents describe how Wikimedia Europe works, where it focuses its efforts, and how different areas of work reinforce one another.

About this strategy

The 2030 WMEU strategy was developed to update the strategic directions that laid the foundation for the organisation at its inception in 2023. Rapid changes in our environment, including growing uncertainty related to political developments and sources of funding, as well as the exponential impact of AI, call for reprioritisation and new ways of working. In this rapidly changing context, the strategy serves as a guiding document. Its implementation will be monitored and evaluated, and its direction adapted as needed to respond to changing circumstances and ensure that WMEU can make the most of emerging opportunities.

The work on the strategy was led by Anna Mazgal, Executive Director, and Alek Tarkowski, Secretary of the Board. Board members and staff contributed to both the substance and the development of the strategy, through original input, feedback on specific parts, and participation in the strategic retreat in July 2025. The Strategy Working Group provided input from the members' perspective across all parts of the strategy.

The strategy was adopted at the WMEU General Assembly on April 25, 2026.
