Event:Wikidata Days IWUG and WAFTAI
Overview
[edit]The Wikidata Days IWUG in partnership with WAFTAI is an annual campaign dedicated to enriching Wikidata through focused, theme-based contributions each year. It will bring together community members (of WAFTAI and IWUG) to work collaboratively on a selected topic, creating and improving items on Wikidata. Activities will include training sessions, and edit-a-thons.
Linguistic inclusion is the main focus of the campaign. The two communities work together, sharing knowledge in several languages. The Igbo community provides translations in Igbo and English, while the Wiki N'zuñdeuh community of WAFTAI provides descriptive entries in Yemba, Fulfulbe, French, and English. This approach strengthens cohesion among African Wikimedia communities. Furthermore, taking linguistic diversity into account in Wikidata content is an excellent way to open up data. This recurring event will build momentum, and strengthen collaboration.
