6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

Building on what I have learned from my previous project in 2022, and how it played a part in reviving the Arabic wikisource, I have decided to repeat the experience once more. Also, having worked on creating hundreds of items on Wikidata, related to the Arabo-Islamic culture, including those of books and persons, I noticed how much we are missing elements related to the aforementioned culture. So, my work will consist of:

1) Enriching the content of Wikimedia projects, especially Arabic elements on Wikidata and the Arabic versions of Wikisource and Wikipedia. 2) Providing access to rare copies of books that exist only in archives and private collections.

I had applied for a grant in 2022 to enrich the Arabic Wikisource and fulfilled my goals. I had uploaded several books back then, some of which were not published on ar.wikisource, and now I plan to complete my work and publish the remaining titles. (https://w.wiki/KdD4)

I have already started the 1st round of the Lebanon projects, from March to June 2026, to enrich the content of the above-mentioned Wikimedia projects (https://w.wiki/KdDC).

Expected challenges:

  • The ongoing crises in Lebanon might have some psychological effects, not allowing for a daily contribution.
  • Copying the Arabic texts from old books in Wikisource using the available tools has improved. Still, it holds some challenges due to the nature of the Arabic language, which means there is no other way but checking the texts manually at each time to make sure everything is fine.
7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
  • Continue adding the texts of the remaining Arabic and Ottoman books to ar.wikisource
  • Adding 500 elements to Wikidata
  • Enriching and developing articles about the Lebanese and Egyptian culture, history and folklore on ar.wiki.
  • Reading Wikipedia in the classroom.
  • Translating and uploading 6 maps related to the Lebanese and Levantine history.
