[edit]The proposal to implement Wiki Loves Women in Northern Nigeria is a valuable project for Northern Nigeria which historically accounts for the highest levels of marginalization of women as a result of poor education, high levels of child marriage and other social factors that limit northern women from exploring opportunities in society. This project will be great to target promising women in the region to introduce them to Wikimedia and build their skills to be Wikimedia editors. The project plan is well developed with realistic outcomes that the proposed collaboration of Wikimedia communities in the North can achieve. I am proud to endorse this project and look forward to supporting the project implementation.

I give my
Strong support to this project because it addresses a critical gap in the representation of women's voices, stories, and perspectives in the global knowledge ecosystem, specifically in Northern Nigeria where cultural barriers, digital divide, lack of awareness, skills gap, and safety concerns hinder women's participation.
The initiative's proposed approaches – awareness campaigns, training workshops, creating safe spaces, and role model amplification – demonstrate a thoughtful and multi-faceted strategy for change. By supporting this project, we can empower women to contribute to Wikimedia projects, enhance their visibility and digital literacy, bridge the gender gap in technology and content creation, and amplify women's perspectives and experiences.
This project has the potential to drive meaningful impact and contribute significantly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). I believe it will create a more equitable and representative knowledge landscape and encourage others to support this vital initiative.

The proposal to execute Wiki Loves Women project in Northern Nigeria is a very interesting project, taking into consideration that there is very low representation of Nigerian Northern women on Wikipedia, both in content and contributors; thereby, i strongly endorse it. -->--AgnesAbah (talk) 09:23, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

Importance for the Community and Chosen Strategies: The proposal is crucial for the community because it addresses the significant gender gap in Wikimedia participation, particularly among women in Northern Nigeria, where cultural and societal barriers limit their involvement. The chosen strategies—such as awareness campaigns, digital literacy training, mentorship, and creating safe spaces for women—are tailored to the unique challenges women face in this region. These approaches are practical and community-focused, ensuring that the project has a direct, meaningful impact on increasing women's visibility and participation in Wikimedia projects.
Well-Developed Aspects: The proposal stands out for its comprehensive strategies that include a strong focus on community engagement and outreach to underrepresented groups, especially women in Northern Nigeria. The planned activities, such as edit-a-thons and mentorship programs, are well-thought-out and aimed at both building capacity and addressing knowledge gaps. Additionally, partnerships with local organizations like the Hausa and Tyap Wikimedia communities, as well as professional groups, demonstrate an excellent approach to sustainability and resource sharing. The inclusion of a detailed learning and evaluation section further strengthens the proposal, ensuring that progress will be tracked and lessons learned will inform future initiatives.
Research, Learning, and Innovation: The proposal offers innovative elements, particularly the creation of safe spaces for female contributors and the role model amplification strategy, which can serve as an inspiration for women to join and stay active in Wikimedia projects. Additionally, the project builds on past successful initiatives within Wikimedia communities, such as the WikiClimate Campus Tour and the "Wiki for Human Rights" campaign. The focus on learning—through outreach, digital literacy workshops, and mentorship—demonstrates an iterative, research-driven approach that adapts strategies based on participant feedback and outcomes.
Contribution to Wikimedia Projects and Movement Strategy: The proposal aligns well with Wikimedia's Movement Strategy 2030, particularly in increasing the sustainability of the movement by addressing gender equity and diversity. By targeting a traditionally underrepresented group and focusing on content related to women in Nigeria, the project contributes to Wikimedia's broader goal of knowledge equity. The increased participation of women from Northern Nigeria in Wikimedia projects will likely lead to more diverse content and voices, which is crucial for the movement's long-term growth and relevance.
Coherence in Objectives, Strategies, Budget, and Expected Results: The proposal is coherent and aligns well in terms of objectives, strategies, budget, and expected outcomes. The objectives are clear—primarily to increase women's participation in Wikimedia projects—and the strategies, including outreach and skills training, directly support this goal. The budget is realistic, with an appropriate allocation of resources for activities like workshops, prizes for participants, and the creation of safe spaces. The metrics, such as the number of participants, content contributions, and the use of tracking tools like the Outreach Dashboard, provide clear and measurable goals, ensuring the project's progress can be effectively monitored. --Bridgitk (talk) 10:11, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
Rapid Fund Request : Not Funded
[edit]Hello , thanks for submitting your Rapid Fund request. We appreciate your willingness to contribute to the Wikimedia Movement.
We have completed the initial review of your application and we decided to not fund it. We made this decision considering several factors:
- Completeness of the grant application, including amount of AI generated content.
- Clear goals, objectives, and impact aligned with the requested budget, activities and metrics.
- On-wiki experience of the main applicant and the team.
- Completeness of the proposed budget, including alignment of the proposed expenses with local costs.
- Additional notes;
We found it challenging to see how the proposed activities link back to the #SheSaid campaign. We observed a weak connection made between the activities and WLW #SheSaid. The primary objective of the proposal could have been a lot more concise- gets lost. Engagement strategies could have been a lot clearer. Feels like a stand alone - close the gender gap type of project. For future requests, on metrics - what is the specific Wikipedia metric by languages?
Seeing that you are a leader on Wikimedia UG Nigeria Kaduna Network, we see an opportunity for you to route the project through the User Group.
