ἣ δ᾽ ἄρ᾽ ἦν μυωνία.- The accursed go-between fooled me completely, swearing by the Maiden, by Artemis, by Persephone, that the wench was a heifer, a virgin, an untamed filly — and all the time she was an absolute mousehole.
- Fr. 9 K, Choros; Aelian, On the Nature of Animals, bk. 2, ch. 10 (ed. Rudolf Hercher, 1864; tr. A. F. Schofield, 1958). Quoted by Aelian as evidence that mice, especially the does, were seen as salacious: "By calling her an 'absolute mousehole' he meant to say that she was beyond measure lecherous."
