Topic on Talk:Wikimedia Developer Summit/2018/Flow

It seems like this should really be titled the "Strategy Summit", or "Technical Strategy Summit". It may attract more of the desired participants, and cause fewer misunderstandings with ordinary developers who won't be able to attend. This event seems pretty clearly different from previous WMF "Developer Summits", which isn't a bad thing, but could cause confusion.

Agree. There are already discussions to change the name for the next time around. Personally I don't care what we call it and will defer to Victoria & others.

From the description, I'm imagining that this will be like the very first Architecture Summit (which seems like an apt name).

I agree it should be called "Strategy Summit" or something similar. It does seem like a different type of event and that would reduce confusion.

We thought about changing the name to WMF Tech Conference and we decided to defer it for a year so as not too change everything at once. That is the goal for next year however. This year the topic is strategy, next year it will almost certainly be something else. I can imagine "foundations for mobile", "a multingual movement" amongst others as candidates. What we will probably do in the future is survey the tech community and pick the topic that is most top of mind.
