EBernhardson (WMF): Initially we used to remember to sign post', now we have to remember not to sign posts. ![]()

EBernhardson (WMF): But as long as we can't see the source (the wikitext), it is useless that code works, since new editors are not able to learn by copying, which is often the best method of learning things. And you also can't apply any wikitext from the toolbar, since that as well is totally absent. Basically, this tool is putting quite some distance between old editors (well-versed in Wikitext) and new editors, certainly if (a the WMF hopes) VisualEditor would be the weapon-of-choice for new editors. has anyone considered that one approach, one preferred method of using wikitext, might have been preferable to the three systems we have now?
EBernhardson (WMF): very good mention - copying is the simplest way to learn the code.
Plus: the usability - if we wanted to write in simple boxes, we would implement such policies and tools/extentions. This way (forum like) has all the problems the fora have (e.g. I cannot cut into your particular sentences and I need to quote them to reply to them - which can be very tiresome in a lengthy text or a discussion page where we are actually working on something, like on meta.wiki.
And the last thing - WTF is with these washed out colours and grey-on-grey approach? This is hardly readable and I am not sure if elderly people are seeing the text they are typing at all. Really Fix it. You have bug submissions in bugzilla - people do mean it.
Aegis Maelstrom and Fram: Adding a "view source" link in place of the "edit" link (for editors without permission to edit the content) is bugzilla:60465.
Adding the edittoolbar is also on the to-do list (notes here).
does the visual editor work here?
Hroðulf: Adding Visual Editor as an optional input method, is on the to-do list, but getting it to work with wikimarkup has been the priority.
