PageTriage statistics for enwiki?
[edit]Hey there! XTools currently displays the number of patrol actions that a user has performed, but enwiki has a different new page patrolling process that uses the PageTriage extension. Pages marked as reviewed with the extension don't always create entries in the patrol log, but instead show in a custom "page curation" log. I think it'd be useful for XTools to also display PageTriage review statistics, as that's the number that enwiki new page patrollers are more likely to be concerned with. Note that several kinds of actions are recorded in the page curation log; reviews can be filtered with the "page triage action" option. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 04:35, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- Do you mean in the Edit Counter? I can add page curation stats there, sure. Note also there's xtools:patrollerstats which already has options for "patrol" and "page curation". — MusikAnimal talk 21:01, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yep, I was indeed referring to the edit counter. It would be useful to have that information when checking the stats for a single user. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 23:30, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

Time Card Timezone Issue
[edit]On the Edit Count page (Here's my example), there's a box labelled "Time Card". It has a diagram of the time of day and day of the week that I've edited Wikipedia. It also has a checkbox labelled "Use local time instead of UTC". When this checkbox is unticked, the times and days are in UTC and are accurate. However, when the checkbox is ticked, the times are accurate but the days are not. For example, as I write this, I have 53 edits at 21:00 UTC on Thursdays. When I tick the checkbox, the 53-edit circle slides to 10:00 NZDT on Thursdays, even though it should be 10:00 NZDT on Fridays. MtPenguinMonster (talk) 12:26, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
Wikimedia Commons
[edit]Hello, at the moment it is not working with Wikimedia Commons, rigth!? I tried this one:
- https://xtools.wmcloud.org/articleinfo-authorship/commons.wikimedia.org/Template%3AC?uselang=en to see the Authorship of Commons:Template:C
But it is stated: "commons.wikimedia.org is not a supported project." Question:
- Will it be in the future? Or is there already another tool working for Commons?
- Or is maybe the template namespace the problem? If I search in _wikipedia_ the authorship of en:Template:Wikidata it is stated "Authorship statistics are only available for mainspace articles."
So a template in commons is mayne a double problem. Any help? Thank you and Best Regards --W like wiki (talk) 13:48, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- The Authorship tool is powered by WikiWho. This is a very expensive tool in terms of performance and data storage, which is why it is only available on select wikis and only for the mainspace. Getting it to work with Commons (in any namespace) would have to come as part of phab:T310386, assuming that works out well. I don't have an estimated timeline on when we'll be able to look into this, unfortunately. — MusikAnimal talk 23:29, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
Page watchers for admins in ArticleInfo gadget
[edit]Administrators (at least on en-WP) have access to the number of watchers of a page when it is less than 30. However, it seems this info shows up neither at XTools nor in the ArticleInfo gadget. Would it be possible to get it to appear for the relevant accounts? Sdkb talk 19:11, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- @MusikAnimal, just quickly circling back, do you think this would be feasible? Sdkb talk 20:17, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, this we can do :) With phab:T220475 on the horizon, I've been meaning to move more of the logic from the backend to WMF APIs where possible, and this would be one of them.
- I'll try to look into it this week. — MusikAnimal talk 16:50, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
- Also was looking for this. Guess I understand the difficulty in implementing if this pulls all the data from xtools. Elli (talk) 00:01, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

Number of pages edited per year?
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hi, I was hoping you could help me out with the following: We have a couple of very active editors in some projects. I use Xtools to see how many pages they created, but I should actually count the number of pages they edited for our metrics. This is a metric I see in General Statistics (‘Pages edited’) but I want to also see the number of edited pages per given year (so to be able to set the parameters for only measuring pages edited in a certain year). How do I go about doing this? Thank you so much! ~ MichellevL (WMNL) (talk) 10:26, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- The Edit Counter is the only tool in the XTools suite that doesn't yet support date ranges (phab:T202552). It will be a bit before I can add that.
- Since you're asking for the number of pages created in a year, you could use the Pages Created tool instead, and set the date range accordingly. Does that work for you? — MusikAnimal talk 21:47, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @MusikAnimal thanks for getting back to me so soon and answering my question! Sorry to hear it does not support date ranges yet. I did already see the option to measure pages created in a year, and I will use these for our metrics instead. Thanks lots and have a great day! ~ MichellevL (WMNL) (talk) 07:47, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

Extreme lag
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
For some reason about a week ago when I started getting a lot of lag when opening Wikipedia articles, which caused the Chrome tab to freeze for a few seconds and the inability to move my mouse. After a bit of troubleshooting, I discovered that it was ArticleInfo gadget, and the lag does not occur when I have it disabled. The lag is so bad infact that I spent 10 minutes trying to edit a page (with 960k bytes) and the Chrome window kept going unresponsive. After disabling the tool I was able to edit the page. What could be causing this lag? It never occurred before. Also, a while ago the gadget said that there was an issue with the API so I wonder if it has something to do with that. Panamitsu (talk) 10:41, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Are you still seeing this issue? Roughly a week ago, we were firing a hook (Special:Diff/6421280) and this could possibly cause some lag, but the issue would then be with whatever is listening to the hook, not the XTools gadget itself. We're no longer firing the hook, but we have plans to reinstate it.
- Also roughly a week ago, XTools was experiencing significant performance problems due to an issue with the databases (phab:T361945). This was fixed on April 5.
- That said, I don't know why the gadget (with or without the above issues) would cause your entire browser to lag like you describe. There is no infinite loop or anything like that, and it has a very small memory footprint. — MusikAnimal talk 22:14, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I re-enabled the gadget to find the answer to this question for a few days and the lag has come back. Panamitsu (talk) 12:04, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
I now retract my statement. I am still sometimes getting the lag with XTools disabled, but it happens far less frequently.Panamitsu (talk) 01:56, 13 April 2024 (UTC)- Yes the lag has now stopped. Panamitsu (talk) 10:04, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
- I am reopening this because the lag has come back. When I open the article for London, the browser locks up, but does not lock up with XTools disabled. Panamitsu (talk) 06:36, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
- I am not convinced its the XTools gadget, but I may still be able to help you figure out what's going wrong. Could you follow the steps at w:WP:JSERROR and report back with any findings? — MusikAnimal talk 05:32, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

- Acknowledged. Thanks for reporting this! I have a fix mostly ready to go, but a lot of other changes incidentally need to come with it, including API deprecations. I'm announcing the deprecations in XTools 3.19 which I hope to deploy tomorrow, then 3.20 with the fix for above will follow in a few weeks.
- Side note: OughtShirt?4 has to be percent-encoded, because the
?is what starts the query string in URLs. I.e. use https://xtools.wmcloud.org/api/user/simple_editcount/en.wikipedia/HickoryOughtShirt%3F4 to get the correct user. — MusikAnimal talk 03:50, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
modifying admin score for commons
[edit]The admin score feature, while fantastic for almost all wikis, has one major glaring exception: Commons. The biggest thing is changing AIV to com:ANV, AFD to com:DR, articles patrolled to files patrolled, and changing all metrics about the article namespace to either file or category. I'm not sure how difficult the change is, but would be greatly appreciated! All the best -- Chuck Talk 23:57, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Xtools Arabic Numerals
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The Arabic version of Xtools employs Indo-Arabic/Eastern Arabic numerals (٠١٢٣٤٥٦٧٨٩), while Western users use Arabic numerals (0123456789). We would prefer it if the defaults were Arabic numerals, as they are the most generally used and understood numeral system, or if there was a choice between the two. Renamed user 3aa4fe0c77e1279e6d0fa928eac40011 (talk) 01:20, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- The Hindu-Arabic numerals were added per request from 2019: phab:T185908, phab:T213503. Perhaps things are different for Persian versus other languages that use Hindu-Arabic numerals? It sounds like maybe it's a matter of preference?
- It looks like the wiki shows Arabic numerals (i.e. ar:Special:Statistics). If that is the case, then XTools should use those, too, I think.
- Pinging @Épine in case they have any input. — MusikAnimal talk 17:54, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- Exactly. Renamed user 3aa4fe0c77e1279e6d0fa928eac40011 (talk) 18:00, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- As it turns out, MediaWiki goes by $wgTranslateNumerals which is turned off for Arabic language wikis on our cluster. So normally, Arabic does have translated numerals, but your community apparently has requested that it doesn't. Kurdish for example does prefer numerals to be translated.
- Anyway, I've made the same change in XTools -- language code
arwill show Western Arabic numerals. I should have this deployed later today or tomorrow. — MusikAnimal talk 23:22, 27 May 2024 (UTC) - I really appreciate your explanation! I am grateful for your willingness to share your knowledge and troubleshoot this issue. Renamed user 3aa4fe0c77e1279e6d0fa928eac40011 (talk) 23:30, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- No problem :) It might be another few days before the next release, FYI. The code is merged though, so I'm going to go ahead and mark this discussion as resolved. — MusikAnimal talk 01:25, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
- @MusikAnimal Is there any news about the merge? Renamed user 3aa4fe0c77e1279e6d0fa928eac40011 (talk) 02:18, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, other priorities have gotten in the way. This next deployment is somewhat risky (lots of API changes and such), so I need to wait to deploy until I have time to tend to any subsequent issues. I'm hoping I'll get around to it next week. — MusikAnimal talk 18:29, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- @MusikAnimal Thank you very much, sir. I appreciate the explanation and will not be revisiting the matter now that it is apparent. I hope this takes less time. Renamed user 3aa4fe0c77e1279e6d0fa928eac40011 (talk) 20:29, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

Score for edits to certain pages; Adminscore
[edit]Querying Admin score for user Azadiazadi on Persian Wikipedia, noticed that 3 score fields are not calculated for that user, all of which are for edits to certain pages. I think the issue is due to undefined page name on fawiki. For example, we have "Wikipedia:نظرخواهی_برای_حذف" instead of "Wikipedia:Articles for deletion". Is there a way to have that score calculated based on local page names? Thanks. Jeeputer (talk) 20:09, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Admin score limit
[edit]There's currently a 100-point cap on admin score for non-deleted articles, which means that if you've hit that cap, it's possible to by making your articles worse to the point where they get deleted. Automated edits by month
[edit]It'd be nice if XTools could break down an editor's (semi-)automated editing history by month, instead of just providing a list of their non-automated edits. It'd look a lot like the month counts section, except that instead of breaking it down by namespace it'd break it down by non-automated or the automated tool used. This data would be both interesting for analysis (e.g. "how much of my increased edit volume during this period was just since I started using an automated tool?") and for detecting when an editor is trying to pad their edit count. Show last 1 million edit statistics for users
[edit]Just like XTools shows the data and statistics for the last 50,000 revisions of a page, en:WP:ANI as an example, it should show the data and statistics for the last 1,000,000 edits of a user instead of stopping completely and rejecting the request, eg BD2412's edit counts. The feature available for Page Info can also be implemented for User edit counts. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:39, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- This is phab:T182182. It's been a while since I've done any tests, but in the past it was just too slow, even with the date range constraints. Things are probably more realistic now that we require OAuth. I'll revisit this when I have the time. — MusikAnimal talk 19:51, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
Analysis of content of edit summaries
[edit]Can the edit summary analysis tool be extended to make counts of the content users leave in their summaries? I occasionally see users leave hundreds of edit summaries that are just "edit" or "fix" which taken together are essentially useless. These users who don't properly describe their edits can often have in excess of 99% edit summary usage with the current tool, but in my opinion these vague edit summaries might as well not exist (and in some cases may be used to intentionally obscure edits).
| Text | Count | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| rv | 4,156 | 15.0% |
| copyedit | 2,014 | 7.2% |
| none | 1,012 | 3.7% |
| fix typo | 401 | 1.5% |
Ideally, this would be case-insensitive and ignore both trailing punctuation and the /* section title */ syntax as I don't see how discerning between for instance "Fix article" and "→History: fix article." would be informative for this type of analysis. Monthly counts bar chart and timecard punch chart
[edit]How come that I can see the monthly counts bar chart and the timecard punch chart although I didn't create a EditCounterOptIn.js page? NNW (talk) 19:24, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Are you logged in? I don't see those stats at xtools:ec/de.wikipedia/NordNordWest. — MusikAnimal talk 21:38, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- I am logged in. This might have started since I see an angry rabbit with a "Please log in to continue" when I open that page (~ 3 or 4 weeks). In past years OAuth was able get the permission by itself. NNW (talk) 21:44, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Requiring OAuth is a measure to help with performance. Web crawlers click on the links and fire off expensive queries at high rates, sometimes taking down XTools for all users. We don't require OAuth in all situations, but we do for queries which are deemed to be expensive, such as running the Edit Counter on your account. — MusikAnimal talk 17:50, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'm completely fine with OAuth but I don't want to see the detailed statistics. NNW (talk) 18:13, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- You don't want to see your own detailed statistics? Or is the concern that others can? Because I can assure you others cannot :)
- If your concern is it takes too long, note you can choose which sections of statistics you want at xtools:ec. — MusikAnimal talk 04:03, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- I don't need this information, it hasn't been displayed all the years until now, it says ''These statistics are only shown if the user has opted in to showing restricted statistics'' which I haven't. NNW (talk) 11:47, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- It has always been displayed for logged-in users. It's just that recently we've had to enforce that users login. If you don't want to see these stats, my advice is to unselect them at xtools:ec. I'm not sure what else I can do. — MusikAnimal talk 20:46, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
Note that this only works for WikiMedia projects.

Not really live/deleted edits
[edit]Maybe it would make sense to actually label Live edits and Deleted edits as something like Edits to currently existing pages and Edits to no longer existing pages? "Live edits" implies that the edits are still present in current page versions, which is obviously not guaranteed even if they haven't been directly reverted; and "deleted edits" implies that the edits themselves were deleted. I doubt most people interested in user stats would bother coming to XTools/Edit Counter to read about the clarified meaning, they're just going to make assumptions, and a disruptive user with most of their edits reverted is going to look better to them than a page patroller. - The English Wikipedia always shows all statistics and does not allow opting out. The other wikis you've edited are already showing the opted-out version of the edit counter (only the year count and namespace stats) and there's no way of opting out further.

- Hi Pppery, One side of me agrees with you, but did you know that the English Wikipedia was an opt-in wiki when I joined in 2007 and for many years (can't remember how many) thereafter? I always tried to read the xtools (I think it was called something different then) analysis of those who opted in. I found it helped communication greatly in an online world where you cannot read facial expressions.
- I guess I better stop philosophizing, it is probably not welcome here? ..and I cannot further summarize this in edit summary, sigh Ottawahitech (talk) 16:08, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
Bug: disambiguation pages shown as "unknown" assessment
[edit]Looking at the results for my own account, on en.Wikipedia, a number of pages are shown with an assessment of "Unknown", rather than "Disambig".
What these pages have in common is having the Disambiguation template inside the Banner shell template, for example on en:Talk:Spon Lane Branch:
{{WikiProject banner shell|
{{WikiProject Disambiguation |importance= }}
}}

- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:PageAssessments?project=Disambiguation&namespace=0 shows the problem is rather widespread. Some pages get a "class" of "disambig" (which is what XTools is going off of) while others do not. Apparently some of the WikiProject templates are not using en:Module:WikiProject banner, which is what does the storage for Extension:PageAssessments. Or, there's a bug in the module. @MSGJ might know how to resolve this.

- We no longer rely on
|class=disambigto classify disambiguation pages as these are detected automatically by using en:Module:Pagetype which checks for the existence of a disambiguation template on the page MSGJ (talk) 10:25, 11 December 2024 (UTC) - Apparently that is not doing so in the example given. User name with space
[edit]Hello, as I have a space character in my user name, I cannot directly go to the edit counter, but have additional two clicks to go to the page. I tested it with other user names. Whenever there is a space character, it is like this. Do you have any solutions.
It was fine before, but for some weeks now, it shows the strange behavior.
