Please provide feedback about the Content translation tool on this page.

We suggest checking the Frequently Asked Questions page first.

When reporting a bug, it will help a lot if you will indicate the following things:

  • Which article were you translating and to which language
  • Which browser did you use (Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, etc.)
  • If you're getting any errors, please provide log from browser console if possible. To open browser console: press Ctrl+Shift+j (or cmd+alt+J () on a Mac).

In case you are familiar with Phabricator, please consider reporting a bug there.

Unpublished finished articles

[edit]

Dear Wikipedia editors,

I hope this message finds you well. Couple of weeks ago I finished two translations from English into Spanish, one was the article on Marie-Joseph Angélique, the other one Sixties Scoop but until now, I have not seen them "officially" published on the platform. I would like to know if there is any specific reason why the two translations have not yet been approved.

Interestingly, I finished the translation of the article "Crown–Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada", published a month ago and within a few days it was approved and I even received a message welcoming me and thanking me for collaborating with Wikipedia.

I wonder if there are any additional steps that I should follow on the platform to ensure that the translation is detected and reviewed by the appropriate editors. I would appreciate any guidance or advice you can give me to facilitate this process.

Thank you in advance for your attention and support. Wikismikis (talk) 15:28, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Wikismikis,
I am not sure your target editors will see this request here. I will suggest you post this request in the Spanish village pump so you can get a reply. Thank you! UOzurumba (WMF) (talk) 18:49, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Pénible

[edit]

Il devient pénible de publier une traduction de l'anglais vers le français ne nécéssitant pratiquement pas de corrections de la traduction automatique !!!.

Il est ultra pénible d'avoir à faire des modifications artificielles et c'est une perte de temps !!! Charele (talk) 07:46, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Charele,
Sorry about the issue you are having. If the automatic translation in the Wikipedia you are translating to has improved, making the current machine translation limit very strict. You can discuss adjusting the limit with the Wikipedia community in the village pump.
In deciding how strict the automatic translation should be, your community should consider different samples of the automatic translation as case studies and agree on a suitable threshold based on its accuracy and the extent to which translators edit the machine translation.
Once there is a consensus on the percentage of adjustment (e.g. 99% automatic translation and 1% adjustment), you can create a phabricator ticket like this one so that the WMF Language team can adjust the machine translation limit.
I hope this information helps. Thank you! UOzurumba (WMF) (talk) 18:40, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Merci pour le retour. Désolé pour mon énervement. Charele (talk) 09:00, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

An old version of wikipedia translation

[edit]

I am writing stories in Wikipedia in isiXhosa language. Then they will be translated into English later. This is for isiXhosa undergraduate students. It is not possible in content translation, but it was fine with the old version. Can you assist? Nomden (talk) 17:28, 3 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello Nomden,
If you are asking: can you translate an article from isiXhosa to English? In that case, you can only publish a translation on the English Wikipedia if you are an extended confirmed editor. You can learn more about this restriction on this page. UOzurumba (WMF) (talk) 18:21, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Copying original content and references

[edit]

Hiya! I noticed an issue when I was translating an article just now, from English to Norwegian Bokmål. When using the "copy original content" alternative, whatever references that are in the original content (a bullet list, in this case) are copies of the reference templates, but not within the reference tags (as they would be when dragging them across manually). Is this intentional? EdoAug (talk) 01:23, 6 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have finished my Chinese translation, but whenever I try to post it, it always shows publishing and remain the state of publishing. On the translation dashboard, the task is still pending but it was completed. Rubyllll (talk) 03:02, 6 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Tool fails when the Nihongo Template is in the original paragraph

[edit]

I'm translating Love Bullet from English to Spanish, and without fail in every single paragraph that the Nihongo template is being used, the whole paragraph is copied instead of translated. This happens with others translations too that have that template in the paragraph I'm trying to translate. ElleAnónime (talk) 19:35, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm using Firefox and there's no errors or messages in the browser's console. ElleAnónime (talk) 19:37, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Captcha blocking from publishing

[edit]

I’ve see other people have been having this problem as well but I can’t find an answer anywhere unfortunately. Im trying to publish a translation, a captcha then appears which I complete but it gives me a new set of letters and never lets me go through. I tried on a different browser, on a different device, but nothing seems to work. Is there a solution to this and if not, is someone working on it? 89.205.132.82 (talk) 21:25, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

How do I get into the community of an article

[edit]

I want to translate the Chinese language article 人權宣言 1977 but prohibited from posting due to community restriction. Is there a way of getting into the community and show them my translation? Gs03ssl (talk) 18:44, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

If this is about enwiki, you should be able to publish your translation as a draft. See also w:Wikipedia:Content translation tool. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 14:56, 25 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Machine translation service english - german not available, yet?

[edit]

Hi, the "initial translation" options in the tools column does not allow me to choose the option "Use a machine translation service." as described on the page: Help:Content translation/Translating/Initial machine translation ("Options for inital translation)

Available are only the options "Copy original content" and "Start with an empty paragraph."

The message "Translation service is for selected languages not available. Why? " appears.

Clicking the button "Why" only the explanation of how the tool works appears. Is the service - in general- not available yet (for English - German translation) or did I neglect to adjust settings? Indi Ann Summer (talk) 09:46, 23 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Some wikis have disabled machine translations for the tool upon community consideration. I'm not sure off the top of my head whether that is the case for the German Wikipedia, but it would be a plausible explanation. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 14:41, 25 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Help Needed to Publish My English Translation

[edit]
I'm trying to publish an English translation of my Belgian Beer Pong Championship article on the wiki, but it’s restricted to experienced editors. The Dutch and French versions are already live. Can anyone help or advise on how to get the English version published?

Hello everyone,

I am facing difficulties publishing the English translation of my article on this wiki. The original version is in Dutch, and I was able to publish a French translation without any issues. However, when I try to publish the English version, I receive this error message:

“Your translation cannot be published because publishing is only allowed to more experienced editors on this wiki.”

My goal is to make the content accessible to as many Belgians as possible, and therefore, I believe that having both French and English translations, alongside the original Dutch, is essential. I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to navigate this publishing restriction. If there is a workaround, or if someone in this community can assist with publication, it would be very helpful.

useful things and bugs

[edit]

hello It would be helpful:

1. Do not translate content between <ref> tags

Two bugs:

1. If the whole page is not translated sometimes the formulas are misplaced.

2. some fields inside the <ref> tag disappear Andresv.63 (talk) 16:38, 27 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Andresv.63, for reporting this. Please confirm whether this issue is still happening. If it is, can you provide the following information:
  • Which article were you translating, and to which language
  • Which browser did you use (Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, etc.)
  • If you're getting any errors, please provide the log from the browser console. Press Ctrl+Shift+j (or cmd+alt+J () on a Mac) to open the browser console UOzurumba (WMF) (talk) 12:42, 4 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello, @UOzurumba (WMF)
Articles with problems in formulas: Equilateral triangle, rotation (mathematics), kernel (algebra). Translated to galician.
Browser: Chrome
Option of translator: Google translate
The problem with <ref> label is almost all translated articles.

Hello @UOzurumba (WMF), at this very moment I entered a saved partial translation of "P-adic number" and it has several formulas out of place. Andresv.63 (talk) 06:19, 7 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello @UOzurumba (WMF), I will include the errors that occurred when translating page "Neighbourhood system" from English to Galician:
  1. <em> tag does not translate it and stops translating the rest of the paragraph
  2. in the <ref> tag it does not include the "title" field (it sometimes does not include other fields). as the Galician wiki understands <ref> with fields in English it would be useful not to touch anything that is between <ref> tags
  3. When <ref> tag has a name is dupplicated and shows an error of tag with same name and repeated content.
  4. internal links between wiki pages when they exist in galician leave the name of the link (internal) correctly but mistranslate the name that appears in the text (it should be the same as the internal). When they don't exist in galician, the external name is often fine, but the internal one leaves it in English (it should be the same as the external one)
  5. when a page deals with a subject covered by the title the title word is repeated many times. It would be helpful to use the same word as the title in the translations
