[edit]- Requested user-rights: IP block exempt.

I have configured automated deployment from GitHub for my gadget, but the majority of GitHub IPs are blocked as open proxies/webhosts. Automated deployment uses a bot password with a limited scope and my account has 2FA enabled. Examples of automated edits: [1], [2]. I'd like to be exempted from IP blocks and will only use it in a limited scenario as mentioned above. All other manual edits will always be performed without VPN/proxy. Thanks. - @Serhior Magpie: I would require a bot account with the bot flag for this.--Jasper Deng (talk) 22:35, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Jasper Deng: but in this case the bot will also require the Interface Administrator flag (so an operator too) to have the ability to edit CSS and JS in the user namespace. I thought about making Instant Diffs a Global gadget, but think it doesn't have so much benefit in its current state. Serhio Magpie (talk) 23:21, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
- Can't we then have the code hosted in the bot's userspace? I'd also be willing to grant it interface admin, though that would need a discussion too.--Jasper Deng (talk) 00:24, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
- It's a possible option with the bot's userspace, but as the gadget is already used by plenty of users, including on external wikis, it will require a redirect from the old location (indirect loading with an extra
mw.loader.load) that could potentially cause extra loading time and problems with cache invalidation. So, should I consider updating this permission request, or opening a new one for Interface Administrator, and than a second one for bot status with the required flags? Serhio Magpie (talk) 01:44, 20 June 2026 (UTC)- I would say make a new permissions request. The other concern is that IP block exemption would not exempt your account from applicable rate limits, and could lead to too much clutter in recent changes, especially if your setup is true continuous deployment. - The main gadget code is like two files, that get deployed occasionally when some fixes or new features are added. Translation files (now there's 40 of them) get deployed like twice a week if there are any changes at all. So there won't be a lot of clutter in recent changes. I have created a new permissions request, so I think this one can be closed. Thanks. Serhio Magpie (talk) 20:03, 20 June 2026 (UTC)

Done as I do not see any objections to the request in itself. If someone raises an issue with flooding, please come back for further permissions. Nemo 13:47, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
