[edit]- Requested user-rights: interface administrator.
I have spent the past six years contributing in Wikimedia’s technical ecosystem at the volunteer capacity. My contributions include:
- Extensions and core: code patches for RevisionSlider and some other MediaWiki components, contributions: Gerrit.
- Tools & gadgets: creator/maintainer of TranslateTagger, ToolWatch, Dabfix, and VideoCutTool; regular upkeep of user scripts and on-wiki gadgets.
- Community leadership: core member, Indic MediaWiki Developers UG; Google Summer of Code 2019 scholar with Wikimedia; Google Code-in mentor/admin; organiser for GSoC and Outreachy rounds.
To better serve the community, I’d like Interface Administrator rights so I can:
- respond quickly to technical-page edit requests (MediaWiki:*.js, *.css, *.json);
- maintain and deploy gadgets and user scripts securely;
- assist with wider technical housekeeping as MediaWiki evolves.
Thank you for considering my request. -- Gopa Vasanth (talk) 15:52, 17 May 2025 (UTC) Preceding unsigned comment added by Gopavasanth (talk • contribs) 08:02, 16 May 2025
Oppose Sorry, the fact that you (a) didn't sign this request, (b) didn't transclude this request, and (c) are requsting administrator despite the rationale seeming to require interface administrator all fails to convince me that granting either right is a good idea. * Pppery * it has begun 13:33, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Pppery, for your feedback. I’ve expanded my request with additional details. If there are any further steps I should take, please let me know—I’m happy to follow them and hope you’ll reconsider. Thanks again! Gopa Vasanth (talk) 16:18, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry, this is still very vague and the rationale still seems to be mostly for things that require interface admin rather than admin. Interface admin rights are required to edit MediaWiki:*.js, and *.css, as well as to edit gadgets and others' user scripts. (Admins can edit MediaWiki:*.json, and anyone can edit their own scripts). I'm worried that you don't seem to understand what the rights you are requesting do. * Pppery * it has begun 16:38, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Pppery. I’ve now updated my request to Interface Administrator, as I realize that’s the right permission for my current technical work. I appreciate your clarification, Please feel free to review the updated request. Thanks again! Gopa Vasanth (talk) 09:48, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- Before we continue this discussion, please confirm you have enabled two-actor authentication, which is required for interface admin rights. * Pppery * it has begun 14:04, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

- I must agree with Pppery with this one; it feels that through your contributions you appear to be wanting to request interface admin status. I might support that, but
Oppose for sysop---no experience outside .js interface editing (which requires intadmin access by the way...) ToadetteEdit (talk) 17:25, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, @ToadetteEdit. I've updated my info, please reconsider reviewing once more. Gopa Vasanth (talk) 16:19, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- 1) How do you even ping users? 2) I have no idea why you keep mentioning MediaWiki:.js and .css editing which intadmin access is required. It is fine to edit .json files. The second bullet point pretty much also require interface admin to import scripts to the MediaWiki: namespace. You can continue to maintain your scripts in your userspace without requiring special rights. I will think of this later. ToadetteEdit (talk) 17:41, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

- OK, that fine for now.
Support unless concerns are raised. ToadetteEdit (talk) 12:03, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

- I don't think this wiki really has a lot of "technical requests and help manage user gadgets", so some clarification would be needed. Leaderboard (talk) 18:42, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Leaderboard, I've now updated my request info with more additional details, please reconsider reviewing once more. Thanks! Gopa Vasanth (talk) 16:20, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Please use some examples to clarify what do you mean by regular upkeep of user scripts and on-wiki gadgets, and what's your experience of editing js/css/json pages on other sites? Stang 02:37, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
Not done No support from the community for granting this access. Generally, it won't be granted without regular adminship.--Jasper Deng (talk) 05:59, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
