Welcome
Hello and welcome!
My Wikimedia journey is deeply personal. As a nursing mother, I experienced firsthand the challenges that often come with motherhood. After the birth of my first child, I struggled to reconnect with the person I was before. Between caring for a newborn and adjusting to a new phase of life, I found myself losing confidence in my abilities and, at times, feeling as though I had forgotten how to read, write, and engage academically.
Everything began to change when I discovered Wikimedia. Through trainings, workshops, edit-a-thons, and the support from the Igbo Wikimedians User Group community, I gradually rebuilt my confidence, sharpened my skills, and rediscovered my passion for learning and knowledge sharing. What started as a pathway back to myself became a journey of growth, empowerment, and impact. Today, I am not only contributing to free knowledge but also helping others, especially women and nursing mothers realize that motherhood does not mark the end of personal development; it can be the beginning of an even greater chapter.
My name is Sylvaline Iwuala, a member of Igbo Wikimedians User Group, Wikimedia Nigeria, Rivers State Network and the founder of Wiki Women's Hub in Ikwerre Community (still in view) also a Community Facilitator, and advocate for open knowledge. I am passionate about promoting indigenous languages, improving access to reliable information, supporting digital inclusion, and contributing to projects that preserve and document knowledge for future generations.
This experience continues to inspire my work in open knowledge, indigenous language preservation, Nursing Mothers Digital Empowerment, and community-led initiatives such as Bridging Access: Mapping Maternal and Child Health Facilities in Ikwerre Community.
