Who it is for

Internal knowledge bases

Processes, products, equipment, projects and contacts as structured pages, entered through forms and pulled together in lists and tables anywhere in the wiki. The CDQ Wiki runs on our hosting.

Encyclopedias and reference works

Thousands of entries about people, works, places or organizations, each with the same structure, cross-referenced and queryable. The TheaterEncyclopedie of the University of Amsterdam runs on our hosting.

Local history and heritage

Places, people, events and sources, with maps and timelines generated from the data. The Stadtgeschichtslexikon Ingolstadt runs on our hosting.

Why Semantic MediaWiki

Structured data on wiki pages

Facts are annotated as properties right on the page, so editing the page updates the data.

Queries anywhere

Put a query on any page and get a list, table or count of the matching pages that updates itself as pages change.

Forms for consistent data

Page Forms turns your templates into forms, so every entry is made the same way.

Maps, timelines and charts

Query results render as maps, timelines, calendars and charts, not only as tables.

MediaWiki underneath

Full version history, and accounts, groups, permissions, discussion pages and watchlists for working together.

Open source, open data

Semantic MediaWiki is open source, and everything you put in comes back out in open formats.

Free software

MediaWiki, Semantic MediaWiki, Page Forms and the result format extensions are free and open source software: no licence fees and no lock-in.

JSON, CSV and RDF

Every query can output JSON and CSV, and the semantic data of any page is served as RDF.

Shared vocabularies

Map your properties to schema.org, FOAF, Dublin Core or your own vocabulary, so other systems understand the exported data.

Data ownership

The data is yours to take: a standard MediaWiki export at any time, and a full export whenever you leave.

Why host Semantic MediaWiki with us

Unmatched Semantic MediaWiki expertise

Professional Wiki was founded by Semantic MediaWiki maintainers Jeroen De Dauw and Karsten Hoffmeyer. Since 2009 we have helped many organisations adopt Semantic MediaWiki, built key extensions for it, and run Semantic MediaWiki wikis with over half a million pages in production.

Our Semantic MediaWiki extensions

We created Semantic MediaWiki extensions used across the ecosystem, including Maps, Modern Timeline, Semantic Wikibase and Network, and contributed to dozens of others, Semantic Result Formats among them.

More than hosting

Data modeling and consulting, data import and custom development and branding, from the same team that runs your wiki.

The wiki setup was exemplary, thanks also to Professional Wiki's first-class service and support. Highly recommended!
Working alongside Professional Wiki, we've seen firsthand their deep technical knowledge in Semantic MediaWiki. They implemented the Network and Modern Timeline extensions for us. Due to the high quality of coding, these extensions are still easy to maintain today.
