Wikimedia LGBT+ at Wikimania

[edit]

We are very happy to announce that the Wikimedia LGBT+ community and staff will be attending Wikimania 2026 in Paris!

On this page, you’ll find the activities organised by our user group. If you’re presenting a talk as part of the conference programme or organising an activity for the LGBT+ community during Wikimania, we invite you to add details of your event to this page.

Also, during Wikimania 2026, we invite you to take part in the Wikimania editing challenge: during the movement’s annual conference, we’ll be editing articles on the biographies of LGBT+ people and the culture of our community in France. Join us and help create French LGBT+ history on Wikipedia!

See you in the City of Lights!

Informal Walk Through Paris

[edit]

On Friday, 24 July, at 9:30 AM Paris time, we will have an informal walk through certain LGBTQIA+ landmarks in Paris, including visiting the bookstores Les Mots à la Bouche and Librairie-café Violette and Co, followed by lunch at Le Ju' in the heart of Marais and an exclusive tour of the offices of the Centre d'archives LGBTQI+ Paris Île-de France. During this tour we will focus primarily on the following goals:

  • Uploading images to Commons throughout the walk; PLEASE NOTE: copyright law in France differs significantly from that of many other countries, be sure to check Commons:Copyright_rules_by_territory/France before uploading!
  • Acquiring sources at bookstores for building out LGBTQIA+-related pages for Paris and France on various Wikipedias and Wikidata (and supporting LGBTQIA+ authors and publishing houses!)
  • Document the work of the Centre d'archives LGBTQI+ Paris for Wikipedia and Wikidata! (Right now there is only a page for the archives amazing work on the French Wikipedia; so let's put together enough for other language Wikipedias!)
