Add translationadmin to Global sysops

[edit]

Global sysops occasionally needs to delete translation pages on some multilingual wikis, which is restricted to sysops with translationadmin rights. However, any local sysops can grant the rights to self, and global sysops can't. That's why I think this will not be a bad idea to grant the following perms to the group:

  • pagelang
  • translate-import
  • translate-manage
  • pagetranslation

What multilanguage wiki's don't have a community process to manage their TAdmins? — xaosflux Talk 02:57, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I guess almost every wiki has (except foundationwiki or mediawikiwiki), but when a translation page deletion comes to us, we can't take action there. And as you have mentioned about community process, all wikis also have community process to manage their sysops and inter-admins, but gs's have those rights. 🪶-TΛNBIRUZZΛMΛN (💬) 03:30, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Both foundationwiki and mediawiki have processes for managing TA if GS need access [1][2] (examples [3][4]). Johannnes89 (talk) 05:57, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the info. I'll follow those instructions to request local rights. But is that not possible to add those with the gs bundle instead? 🪶-TΛNBIRUZZΛMΛN (💬) 06:02, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oppose Oppose Not all GS have TA experience and not knowing how the extension works will break pages unnecessarily. GS experienced with the translate extension can, and should, go through the normal process of getting the right through community input. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 06:09, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Support Support but do you really need all 4 rights to delete a translation page? Leaderboard (talk) 06:16, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don’t know, if one or two of those rights is enough to delete translation page, then adding one or two is ok, someone experienced might help. 🪶-TΛNBIRUZZΛMΛN (💬) 06:19, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Found it on mw:Help:Extension:Translate/Page translation administration, Deletion requires "delete" and "pagetranslation" permission. So adding the pagetranslation only is enough. 🪶-TΛNBIRUZZΛMΛN (💬) 06:41, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Per above, Support Support adding pagetranslation only. -- CptViraj (talk) 12:31, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Need to think more on this; striking for now. -- CptViraj (talk) 12:34, 12 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Add abusefilter-view to the GS toolset?

[edit]

I would like to propose adding abusefilter-view to the global sysop toolset.

Per abusefilter.php and InitialiseSettings.php, there is (probably) one global sysop wiki (ckbwiki) that requires users to have 4 days and 10 edits to be autoconfirmed, and non-autoconfirmed users cannot view abuse filters and the abuse log. Global sysops mostly have access to the abuse filter interface (such as modifying filters), so adding abusefilter-view should be uncontroversial. Thoughts? @Ameisenigel: Could you confirm that, as a global sysop and non-autoconfirmed user on ckbwiki, you are not able to view ckb:Special:AbuseFilter? NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 15:39, 9 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I can view it, but probably because of other global rights. --Ameisenigel (talk) 15:41, 9 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
You already have abusefilter-helper and global-rollbacker because of this, and they allow you to view abuse filters globally. Codename Noreste (talkcontribs) 15:44, 9 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Because abusefilter-view is already a part of GR, and because virtually all GS are also GR, this sounds like a non-issue. Neutral Neutral. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 15:46, 9 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
