Continuing Wiki education partnerships in Brazil
Historical Research and Memory Center workshop
In July, a workshop was held in collaboration with UNIFESP’s Center for Memory and Historical Research (CMPH). Building on activities initiated with Wikimedia Brasil in 2025, students from CMPH participated in a workshop focused on Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia.
The group’s project involves editing encyclopedia entries related to the work of Alejandro Buenrostro y Arellano—a Mexican sociologist who lived and worked for many years with Indigenous communities in the Chiapas region—and uploading his collection of images and files to the media repository.
Modern History on Wikipedia
Between June and July, Professor Caroline Garcia Mendes conducted an activity to introduce Wikipedia to undergraduate students in the Modern History 2 course at the Federal University of Mato Grosso. The goal was for them to edit entries on various topics related to the class subject matter.
The students were divided into groups and, over the course of three weeks, expanded the information available on Wikipedia regarding the Early Modern period. The editing process was supported by teaching assistants who had participated in the workshop Wikimedia and digital literacy through university extension.
Digital humanities, public history, and educational heritage workshop

For the second time this year, Wikimedia Brasil, in partnership with the Graduate Program in Education at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, held the workshop Digital Humanities, public history, and educational heritage.
Through this initiative, master's and doctoral students created Wikipedia entries about figures in Brazilian education and notable educational institutions.
Identification, natural history, and evolution of snakes

In July, the second phase of the project Identification, natural history, and evolution of snakes—a partnership with the Butantan Institute (USP)—got underway. The project, which began in January, is scheduled to run until the end of 2026.
The initiative aims to foster digital literacy among undergraduate and graduate students and researchers, while also disseminating Brazilian scientific output in a global context. Participants are improving the quality of information about snakes available on Wikipedia and uploading images of various species to Wikimedia Commons.
