As announced in the March 2012 report, the Wikimedia Foundation is creating a new, cross-functional team to work on experiments to increase participation in Wikimedia projects, especially Wikipedia. We're calling it Editor Engagement Experiments (or E3 for short).
Our goal is to conduct many different small, rapid experiments designed to improve editor engagement and overall editor retention. This team will test new approaches to attracting and retaining contributors to Wikipedia, and in many was will be our think tank for new product ideas at the Wikimedia Foundation. Our experiments may be technically-focused and involve deep understanding of where our user experience is headed. Other work will center on community policy and process, and working closely with Wikipedia volunteers. All our work will have a strong measurement and analytic component.
The team launched on April 16 and is composed of staff from the Wikimedia Foundation Community and Engineering/Product departments. We are hiring several new full-time engineering positions for this team. Come work with us and shape the future of Wikipedia!
