GLAMcamp DC
For the December 2011 GLAMcamp, see GLAMcamp Amsterdam

GLAMcamp DC is a meeting/workshop for Wikimedians active in outreach within the United States to cultural institutions and modeled on the 2011 GLAMcamp NYC. Rather than an open community conference like Wikimania, this will be a workshop targeting a small group of community-focused and technology-focused Wikimedians to continue and solidify the key elements of the glamwiki.org project, with special focus on the United States. Attendees will also include key representatives of GLAM (and related) institutions who have a strong relationship with Wikimedia already.
The date for the meeting is February 10-12, 2012, to be hosted by the National Archives and Records Administration.
This event is limited to 25 highly active GLAM WIKI outreach and GLAM staff members who are currently or are interested in developing and examining the future of GLAM in the United States.

Visiting Washington, DC

Washington, DC is the center of the United States; politically and culturally. Its landscape is rather concrete, but full of historical and cultural significance - you'll be in the heart of where it all happens in the US. The National Archives and Records Administration serves as our business home for the weekend, and our housing location at the HI Washington DC is in the heart of Chinatown. Both serve as central location to the cultural landscape of DC. We welcome you to Washington, and look forward to serving you with your first small taste of what Wikimania 2012 will serve!
The weather in February
February in DC is not as cold as some parts of the country, but requires a warm jacket, a scarf and gloves at the least. It could snow, you never know! ;)
- Average high: 47°F (7°C)
- Average low: 31°F (-0.5°C)
Other tips for visiting DC
- DC is like any other major city in regards to staying safe - keep your eyes peeled and stay aware of your surroundings - regardless, DC is fairly safe, especially the areas where the hostel and Archives are in.
- Bring your walking shoes! Check the weather before visiting, you might want to bring boots for snow.
- The hostel is located in a really central location; we're one Metro stop from the National Archives and you'll be surrounded by tons of bars, restaurants, coffee shops and cultural places to see and visit.
