Abstract:

WikiDonne User Group has developed a multi-layered educational ecosystem connecting open knowledge with formal and informal learning. Our programs include a curricular internship with Università Roma Tre (now in its second edition, with a published Wikibook), two Moodle courses on Wikipedia editing and digital accessibility, and past PCTO activities with high school students. In 2025, WikiDonne received the OEGlobal Open Education Award for Excellence (DEI subcategory). In 2026, we expanded internationally with an English-language event co-organized with Syracuse University Florence and Calliope Arts Foundation. This lecture presents the model, the results, and the lessons learned.

How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of CEE?

WikiDonne's experience shows how a small user group can build sustainable educational partnerships with universities, schools, and cultural organizations — without institutional funding. The model is replicable: curricular internships, Moodle courses, and collaborative events can be adapted by CEE communities working in different linguistic and academic contexts. Participants will gain practical insights into structuring university partnerships, designing open educational resources, and expanding activities toward international collaboration. The OEGlobal award recognition demonstrates that this approach meets global open education standards, offering a validated framework for communities aiming to grow their educational impact.
