25 Participants 25 Participants Although we had hoped to significantly surpass the targeted number of participants, we are glad that we did not fall below the target.
10 new editors 3 new editors While we fell below the target new editors, we recognize that some 5 editors were attending our network event for the first time, although they are already Wikimedia editors.
200 articles improved Still ongoing Participants have until January 14th 2025 to complete their edits across their chosen Wikimedia projects.

Learning

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

The previous engagements offline and online (since the Wikimedia Nigeria Conference) worked well for us as the Wikimedia editors who did not know about the WUGN Abuja Network have stayed engaged with the Network’s activities. The innovative program also worked well for the project as participants loved the idea of an end-of-year event blended with the in-depth conversations to review the year 2024 and envision the year 2025 and a variety technical session to support participants with some wikimedia projects, specifically Wikimedia Commons, WikiSource and Meta Wiki.

  • What did not work so well?

The late attendance of participants did not work so well as the event only started almost 2 hours after the scheduled time. Participants did not turn up in good time and this impacted when we could start the event. However, the participants were very engaged in the technical session, such that it took a while to successfully end the session, take group photos, entertain with some refreshments and eventually close the event.

  • What would you do differently next time?
