Proposal Feedback for Submitted GSF Application

Dear Africa & Proud,

Thank you for submitting your application. The regional funding committee and regional program officers and expert staff reviewed your application and have the following questions and feedback for your response;

  • One of the reflections we are having is trying to understand the specific value your organization is bringing to the movement and especially when we look at your proposed interventions and existing work being led by Wikimedians  in Nigeria.
  • We for instance are struggling to understand the value of the bootcamp in its current structure to our movement . While we may have funded it in the past, we find ourselves not convinced on its value to our movement. As one of the expert staff put it ‘ I am not sure that the Bootcamp has as clear of an impact on the Wikimedia movement as they currently communicate: curriculum and structure of the project is not focused enough on the outcomes of capacity development in the Wikimedia movement, and in the current documentation its unclear how they will translate that into movement capacity.’  How is this program serving the needs of the movement?
  • It is unclear to us on the motivation to implement the Nigeria law project and how that links to your other ongoing and past projects.
  • As we noted in the mid-learning conversation - we see one of your biggest challenges being ensuring that there is high quality of content by the contributors you engage with - ‘ several of their campaigns have struggled with bringing that scale of participants into alignment with high quality content.’
  • Specifically to the proposal as is;
    • We find your metrics low especially when we compare with past applications against current requested resources
    • What is the intended impact of your partnership with Dagbani Wikimedians UG and what resources are needed and planned for to actualize the partnership?
    • We are keen to understand the use and plan for the LMS developed from a previous grant funded.
    • Please provide details to your metrics ; specific language Wikis you are planning to work with and specific contributions per Wiki
    • Please note that the linked dashboards were not working - share the correct links.
    • What has been the education and learning outcomes of the WikiClassroom Project ?
    • Please share the WikiClassroom curriculum you are using with the 10 schools - how many teachers and students are you working with - What is the type of engagement you are having with them?
    • What is the mentor qualification from a Wiki skills perspective?
  • Besides the core team - how are community members involved in the design and implementation of the project? Where on Meta can we find the list of volunteers you work with in your community. Can you confirm the community structure you operate within.
  • Lastly, please clarify the location of the core team.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you on the comments shared and if you would like to meet with the regional funding committee, please inform the program officer.
