I'm new here, from Wikipedia, and I'm not totaly sure how to contribute, could you please help me? I'm asking because I didn't get much from the Welcome template that I posted on my talk page, and there's no helpme template. Please, I'm really confused!
- Jota 00:00, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the Welcome!
I'm familiar with the policy on the english wikipedia, but no other. Thank you for giving me direction. Mid943 21:35, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Спасибо. Thanks for kind words in my address
(Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Sakha). С уважением, --HalanTul 01:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- I wrote to you the following (I do not know in a due measure English language, therefore I am sorry for inevitable mistakes): It seems you know Russian. I wish to ask a question concerning terms of opening of new language section. Now, as I understand there is a stage of discussion of expediency of opening of section. Then there will be a certain stage of becoming of the project, for the proof of its solvency (if I have correctly understood rules). When roughly there will be an opening ours Sakha Wikipedia?. This information is necessary for planning an advertising campaign.
I thought, that you know Russian, I apologize. Yours faithfully, Nikolay --HalanTul 13:56, 17 March 2007 (UTC)- Thanks for the answer. My question concerned terms of decision-making. What time rules, whether occurs it constantly, or the commission gathers with any periodicity, for example, once a month, time in 3 months, time in half a year? When the next decision-making is planned? I understand, that the commission works on public principles, and the patience is required, but it would be desirable to learn even provisional terms. Yours faithfully, Nikolay --HalanTul 23:53, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
TWINKLE on Meta
Do the Wikipedian scripts, Twinkle, function on Meta? Mid943 00:46, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
In fact, I do have a question
Hi, thanks for the welcome. We have a wiki that just passed 8000 articles and so I tried adding it to the list but the automatic update removed it so perhaps it requires an addition to the code of the script itself, but I can't do that. Any advice? Mithridates 01:32, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks
I am now logged in.

RfD query
Firstly i should say I'm no expert on RfDs. The reason I have so many pages on the RfD page is that I would the "checkme" category while browsing and once the category was placed in RfD it seemed best to bring the pages to the community's attention rather than allow pages that a user had doubts about to fade away again.
As to Quality it certainly does not look like a particularly worthwhile page. I guess it may have some historic interest but the best way to discover the community's view would be for you to place it in RfD. Regards --Herby talk thyme 07:24, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Welcome message
Just some time back I logged in to edit and found your welcome message. Thanks for the pointers, sorry for the delay in thanking. :-)
BTW this isn't the first time a someone who joined a project after me has welcomed me. :-) -- Paddu 08:05, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Where do I post a query on the context of interface messages?
Thank you for the welcome message you left on my user page way back in November 2006! I write with a question concerning translation of the interface (I am updating the Welsh translation via Nike's special interface translation site). I hope that you can help me find out where to post this query either on Meta or on Mediawiki.org or some other appropriate page. I have looked but am feeling a little lost. I don't know how to use IRC channels yet although I am trying to find out. Anyway this is the query:
When translating messages it is sometimes necessary to know the context of the message before it can be translated. It is often possible to guess the context and use of the message from its's title and up till now I have done translations by going through all the wiki special pages and actions that I can think of and searching for the word strings I find there in the list of allmessages. That means that I automatically know the context. However there are still messages which are a puzzle to me, eg Mediawiki:blocklink. Is there some way to find this out that I haven't understood?
If there isn't then could you consider creating a system which would provide some information on the message. Perhaps this could be done either individually for each message on its message talk page on meta or on a new page in table form. The information that could be useful for some of the messages is:
- What page it appears on
- What function it has (text, button label, tab label, choice in a dropdown box, check box label, message during an operation, message on completion of an operation).
- What any message variables return in the finished product eg Mediawiki:Noconnect
- Where the message is just a word or phrase in the middle of something else, then what comes before and after.
If it is matter of asking specific questions on individual messages, rather than creating a record of info on all messages, then where or who should I ask and can we build up a record of the answers that can be systematically accessed by all translators (ie not buried in an archive)?
- I also have a query on the PLURAL function but that can wait! In hope Lloffiwr 09:50, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
