About Fante Wikimedians Community

The Fante Wikimedia Community is a volunteer group in Ghana committed to preserving the Fante language, culture, and heritage while enhancing its presence on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia platforms. Spoken by over 2 million people, Fante is a key dialect of the Akan language group.

The community strives to preserve the culture and heritage of the Fante tribe, promote the visibility of the Fante language on Wikimedia platforms, encourage local language editing on Wikipedia and sister projects, and expand the Fante vocabulary to include modern concepts, medicinal plants, and biological terms. Through activities such as meetups, edit-a-thons, and editing contests, the community fosters local language content creation and contributes to the growth of Fante knowledge resources
