What is the Wiki Global Check In?

We are living in complicated times! But we are also seeing the value of the Wikimedia movement more than ever! The world is turning to us in record numbers.

The Wiki Global Check In is a chance to check up on members of the Global Wikimedia community, and a gather snapshots of life during this historical world-wide moment. We are all witnessing dramatic times.

How do I participate?

We invite you to join the check-in by:

• Finding your timezone! Help us show the check-in around the world!
• Saying hello!

Yes! That's it!

But we want to leave a timecapsule of edits to document the movement's actions now. So if you can:

• Upload a photo to Wikimedia Commons that captures something related to life in your context or part of the world during the pandemic,
• Show something you are editing that captures this moment. It could be any edit: adding a reference about the news, a translation of a key topic on Wikipedia, connecting a WikiData item, transcribing a Wikisource. Share with us an edit that captures what you are working on now as a time capsule for future generations. How are you responding to this moment?
• Check in on fellow Wikimedians! Lastly Wikimedia only works when we do it as a community: sent

How to prepare:

1. Add your username to the Check In Dashboard and (optional) add or translate a Wikipedia, WikiSource or WikiData entry.
2. Add an image that represents your world right now during the COVID-19 Pandemic to Wiki Commons (tag: Wiki Check In 2020). This is what we are calling your "pandemic snapshot." It speaks to your context during this historic time. You do not have to be in the photo. The photo is a way to show the world what this time looks like to you where you currently are.
3. Check in with 3 Wikimedians you think might also be interested in helping to represent their region by sending them this page's link: Wiki Global Check In link for your invitation to friends!

Starting at noon on May 16 in your time zone:

1. Add the link to your pandemic snapshot photo in the table below along with your username, country and time zone (Time Zone Guide)
2. (Optional) add a photo/ audio/ video of yourself in your current context saying hello in your language to Wiki Commons (tag: Wiki Check In 2020 Greetings). Add the link to the table below.
