Wikimedia's goal is the spread and promotion of knowledge. If you want to propose a new project under the umbrella of the Wikimedia Foundation which is in line with this goal, you can do it on this page. Policy to create new project is on New project policy. Please read it before making any proposition.

If you have a good idea for a project but are not willing to take the responsibility to realize it unto your shoulders, you can use the associated Discussion page to describe your idea so others can pick it up and build upon it.

If you want to propose a new language for an existing project, please do so on Requests for new languages.

Note: Wikimedia is not a free hosting company for any kind of wikis. If your project doesn't fit the ideals of Wikimedia you are probably better off with a wiki hosting company such a http://wikidev.net or http://www.wikicities.com or hosting it on your own.

  • Scope: The name "Enkipedia" invokes the idea of Sumerian clay tablets in clay envelopes recording "articles" we can still read after 6000 years. Will Wikipedia last that long on magnetic drives and CD-ROM? Think "The Day After Tomorrow". It's in people's nature to think of stuff like this only after it's too late. If the internet and CD ROMs were to go away temporarily or for a long time, it would become all the more important to have permanent records of not only HowDoesItWorkWiki but perhaps also all or part of Wikipedia. I propose copying pages from both spaces to highly-resilient media likely to survive fires, floods, or severe cold, as well as archival copies designed to survive at least 1000 years. I think this project could profitably partner with the HowDoesItWorkWiki project.

  • Domain name: WikiTriva.org or WikiFacts.org respectively. Where the sub domain could either represent the difficulty (easy.wikitrivia.org) or the main catagory (genetics.wikitrivia.org).
  • Scope: A facts listing in the form of Qs and As and possibly articles to more detiled information on other wiki if such information exists with keywords. A playing page might be a nice idea but should serve mainly as a source for other application to retrive data from. Might also benifit if a quick way to enter facts is introduced (To use for ex with a firefox plug-in).

This would not be a site mainly for business news, mostly for information about commerce, both as a resource for investors, journalists, and whoever wants information about corporations and business. Maybe it could incorporate the goals of Wikiproducts, Wikineur, and Trade Standard in one place. I believe the focus of the site would be wide enough to be viable. Obviously there are websites with a similar focus out there, the difference with Wikitrade would be that it would be from a NPOV.
