在[[Wikimania 2014|2014年维基媒体国际会议]]上，一些来自东亚和东南亚地区的维基人（[[Wikimedia User Group China|中国维基媒体用户组]]的Addis、[[WMHK|香港维基媒体协会]]的Samuel和Kris、[[WMPH|菲律宾维基媒体协会]]的Eugene和Joel、[[WMID|印尼维基媒体协会]]的Ichsan、[[WMTW|中华民国维基媒体协会]]的Liang、泰国维基媒体用户组的Taweetham以及[[Wikipedia_Education_Program|维基媒体教育项目团队]]的Anna Koval）讨论了通过开展地区性的合作可以实现哪些愿景。

我们期望这次会议能够为我们在具体工作上的合作并学习成功案例提供机会。另外，通过这次“迷你[[Wikimania|维基媒体国际会议]]”，我们想让与会的各区域组织成员能分享他们在参与不同项目时积累的经验以便新成员能够获得必要的建议。

虽然存在着文化差异、历史和教育等与维基媒体项目无关的干扰因素，我们还是尽力地在不同地区间的维基人之间建立联系，更何况现实中也有些区域性国际合作的案例。因此我们觉得有必要为使用[[:en:CJK characters|中文、日文、韩文]]以及[[:zh:东南亚|东南亚]]诸语言的维基人之间创造这样的一次机会，同时也欢迎相对年轻的区域组织成员（比如爪哇语维基人）参与此项活动。
