    Description

    Hutton Unconformity at en:Jedburgh, en:Scotland, illustrated by en:John_Clerk,_Lord_Eldin in 1787 with a recent photography (2003) by Keith Montgomery. The Jedburgh - Newcastle road (A68) is above the section. The section is located about 5 minutes walk from the Jedburgh Abbey, on the outskirts of the town.

    This is a good example of an "angular unconformity" in which tilted sedimentary beds are overlain by horizontal beds. This unconformity represents a long gap in the record of geological time, during which deposition had ceased and folding or faulting occurred, the lower strata tilted, and then deposition resumed.
