OpenSearch is a way to share search results. More information can be found at http://www.opensearch.org/.
This special page allows MediaWiki to send search results via the OpenSearch format (actually Atom 1.0 feeds) as well as advertise the availability of OpenSearch via a description file (a link is present in the header of every page).
