Wikisource:New Wikisource logo
This is a page to vote on a new Wikisource logo. The process of choosing a new logo will be the following:
- Logo submission and discussion
- A straw poll to determine which logo is the most popular
- The Foundation's Board will choose a new logo or decide that the current one will stay
And presto - we're done. Doesn't sound too hard? We're using approval voting - each voter will be allowed to vote for as many logos as they like. But we only approve them - if you have a really strong reason to believe such a logo cannot be used on the Wikisource project, state it in the discussion.
Rules
Here's the timeline of the vote:
- Logo submission
- from: Wednesday, 0:00 February 1, 2006 (UTC)
- to: Tuesday, 23:59 February 14, 2006 (UTC)
- Voting
- from: Wednesday, 0:00 February 15, 2006 (UTC)
- to: Tuesday, 23:59 February 28, 2006 (UTC)
Who can vote? Anyone with an account on this wiki, with his normal Wikisource account linked from his user page. Anonymous users may discuss the logos and give their suggestions.
Logo guidelines
Remember, due to the nature of the importance of a logo, its copyrights need to be transfered to the Wikimedia Foundation. The logo you created cannot be licensed under any free license or be released to the public domain.
The logo should be easily converted to a vector image, and it should easily convert to a grey scale image.
Please don't use the Wikipedia logo in the creation of a new logo - this is a seperate project of a Foundation, not a subproject of Wikipedia.
Please add your ideas here, but do look at it from a NPOV - you should have a good reason for your suggestions
Gallery
Please make a subsection for your logo in the Logos section and add it to the gallery below.

Alternatively, I dub thee Wikicala. (It looks like a gem from a typical Mancala set.) :^) – Minh Nguyễn (talk, blog) 01:50, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

- Could you explain the meaning of the fishtank symbol? I think it's looks really cool, but don't really 'get' it. The bellman 23:47, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, it reminds me of "bottled water, straight from the source" – as in the source of a river or spring. I like this logo for its very subtle detail (the glasslike gradients, mostly), although the red dot is a bit distracting to me. I realize that the dot is an element from the Wikimedia logo, but it’s shape seems to make it not fit in with the rest of the logo. 2¢ – Minh Nguyễn (talk, blog) 01:46, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Looks really cool, but I'm not sure what it is. - Mark 04:07, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

- Not very identifiable or unique; not very relevant to the project. (but pretty :) Sj 13:17, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

- Stack of books making an 'S' shape in a Wikimedia-style circle.
- I think it looks really cool, but it just feels a bit too much like a faceless corporation's logo. As in it looks really professional and is really good, but i just don't think it fits the somewhat folksy, non-profit, open source sort of atmosphere of wikimedia. The bellman 23:43, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Think of the concept instead of the particular artwork used here. In fact, the first round of voting should be for that (same thing was done for the Wikipedia logo). --Maveric149 02:16, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- I like this a lot as a concept but agree with The bellman that this particular implementation is a bit too corporate looking. Something a bit more funky using the same theme would be nice to see. --Maveric149 02:16, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Very good concept and looks quite nice. Would be even more appropriate for Wikisource if the stack would somehow look more lick a stack of books than a stack of blocks (this could be accomplished with very minor visual adjustments). Dovi 09:36, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Good concept. Scalable; easily recognizable at a distance. Could be a stack of sheets of parchment, too. Sj 13:17, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

- To keep the same iceberg symbol seems to be a good idea imo :) Paglop 01:12, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ditto. I think the iceberg makes the most sense anyway. --129.21.121.58 01:50, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Maintains the same symbol without the artifacted JPEG. I like it. - Mark 04:06, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- There are similar circular versions of the iceberg at Wikisource:Logo and also some lighter versions that look really nice, but no circular lighter' version. I hope Zanimum or someone will be able to create that and replace the version pictured above. Dovi 09:30, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- I like. Having the iceberg is a bit odd (deriving as it does from a former name). But odd and quirky things are nice sometimes, and this keeps the existing "brand", whilst making it a proper logo not just a picture. Morwen 11:10, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Less obviously an iceberg. Abstract; but certainly unique. Sj 13:21, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

This looks like a Commons logo derivative. Wikisource is a source, not a common dumping ground like Commons. The arrows should be radiating outwards, not inwards. - Mark 04:10, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
