Number of pages

I've noticed that the main page on Multilingual Wikisource shows the total number of pages on Portuguese Wikisource wrongly. Instead of "+ 17 000", Portuguese Wikisource has "+ 81 000". Can that be fixed somehow? Best wishes, Manoel Fernández^Msg 00:09, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Zyephyrus, thanks for the reply. I really do agree with that. We also had the same discussion somewhere on Portuguese Wikisource, but no one came to a conclusion as the matter is a little difficult to be solved (but not impossible, I shall say). Counting pages as new books is completely wrong and books whichever language they may be, there will be considerable different pages, giving the wrong idea of numbers of books on a Source. But, let's wait and see what is going to be done about that. I hope it comes to an end still this year (as the fact really needs attention). Me again. I left a message to you on French Wikisource and was tempted to read the messages on the Scriptorium and, for my surprise, there is a "topic" about us? Not that you can't do it, but people saying that what we do is "inutile" and that dictionaires do not count for the statistics, that is unfair. Have you all discussed about the English Wikisource and the dictionaires they have there? Most of them have one page for each entry and just because we put dictionaires on our source, we are less important? Zyephyrus, this is not fair with us. I only asked you to update an information and all I had was a couple of pages where the discussion is going on and nothing else. It seems to me that this is something about who has more here and there and I never came here to ask you to update something because "we are second"; I never said that. If that was the matter to me, I would never be contributing to English Wikisource, as they are first and I want to reach them. But, instead, I contribute to English Wikisource when I have the time and this is what we all have to do, apart from this nonsense thing of who is first and second: try and spread the knowledge somehow, no matter in which language. Remember: I never wrote any word about "being second" or "second place", because this is not what counts to me, but instead the right to work in a place where information are updated and reliable. Sorry for the words, but I am feeling really hurt with this all, but who cares other than myself? I am just someone who is trying to make it better for everyone. Now, back to my work on Portuguese Wikisource and whereelse I am welcome to work and there is no need to update the information on the main page. Zyephyrus, I told you that this is a problem and some people discussed that somewhere on Portuguese Wikisource, when I was not an active user there. I always thought counting all pages was not right, but only complete books. This should be what counts most, but finding a solution is difficult, I know. pour les champs, c'est une question de configuration : un admin doit mettre à jour MediaWiki:Proofreadpage_index_attributes et MediaWiki:Proofreadpage_index_template. Je n'ai pas trop le temps de m'en occuper, mais si tu ne trouve personne je peux supprimer la protection de ces pages.

Pour les liens rouges c’est toujours le même problème : les sections ne sont pas prévus pour s’étendre en double sur plusieurs pages. Du coup, la balise pages est perdue et transclus tout, y compris le iwpage (c’est lui le lien rouge en fait, sur IE le javascript pour iwpage ne fonctionne pas ce qui explique que les transclusions n’apparaissent pas donc les liens rouges non plus). Pour le moment, sur les éditions bilingues (pourtant la majorité des œuvres), j’ai peur que l’on ne puisse pas utiliser la balise page.

problem with proofread

Ok, maybe I have understand... in MediaWiki:Proofreadpage index attributes we've got "Scans", but it should be "Source" (not the other way round, since existing pages all use source). Also, I don't understand why you dropped the Image field... what's wrong with having the cover image in the index page? Last one: in MediaWiki:Proofreadpage index template we've got {{DEFAULTSORT:{{{Key|}}}}}, but we don't have a "Key" field... why not simply use {{DEFAULTSORT:{{PAGENAME}}}}? Une chose est sure : il ne faut pas laisser ces modèles ainsi.

Après, il faut faire le tri entre ce qu’il faut juste supprimer et ce qu’il faut renommer. Globalement, il faudrait les conserver/renommer. Par contre, pour le renommage, gare au collision Modèle:E et Template:E ne font pas du tout la même chose.

Ces collisions sont « normales », par contre (je jongle régulièrement avec sur les importations sur le wiktionary), tu as fait une petite erreur, dans special:import tu as du oublier de préciser la namespace de destination (ce qui t’aurait éviter une partie des problèmes).

Hello, I am new to wiki-anything and I can't find my way in this maze. I can speak, read, write and translate hindi, marathi, sanskrit and to a large extent english into each other. I also have a little knowledge of HML etc that I will have to brush up. I am still unable to figure out what all I can do on wiki-which, as in, there's a wikisource, there's wikimedia, then there's something where translations are going on, and so on and so forth.

Removal of message

My posting has been removed. I am NOT trying to sell, or infect your site. I am trying to assist this thread. I am using this thread as a source, and in repayment, I am trying to add to it. You will of course know, that this thread is incomplete. It is supposed to be the 4 Gospels in P.U.L.'s Irish, but only Matthew's Gospel is present, and incomplete. I am doing parallel work, and offering to the generator of this thread, my work, so (s)he can add to this thread with minimum effort. I have just finished pages 167 - 172, and posted the results to the address I gave. This is a Box.net site, which is a mirror of a folder on my computer. It should be completely safe. Actually, I would be happier to communicate directly with the author of the thread which I am using as a source.

An important message about renaming users

Dear Zyephyrus,

I am cross-posting this message to many places to make sure everyone who is a Wikimedia Foundation project bureaucrat receives a copy. If you are a bureaucrat on more than one wiki, you will receive this message on each wiki where you are a bureaucrat.

As you may have seen, work to perform the Wikimedia cluster-wide single-user login finalisation (SUL finalisation) is taking place. This may potentially effect your work as a local bureaucrat, so please read this message carefully.

Why is this happening? As currently stated at the global rename policy, a global account is a name linked to a single user across all Wikimedia wikis, with local accounts unified into a global collection. Previously, the only way to rename a unified user was to individually rename every local account. This was an extremely difficult and time-consuming task, both for stewards and for the users who had to initiate discussions with local bureaucrats (who perform local renames to date) on every wiki with available bureaucrats. The process took a very long time, since it's difficult to coordinate crosswiki renames among the projects and bureaucrats involved in individual projects.

The SUL finalisation will be taking place in stages, and one of the first stages will be to turn off Special:RenameUser locally. This needs to be done as soon as possible, on advice and input from Stewards and engineers for the project, so that no more accounts that are unified globally are broken by a local rename to usurp the global account name. Once this is done, the process of global name unification can begin. The date that has been chosen to turn off local renaming and shift over to entirely global renaming is 15 September 2014, or three weeks time from now. In place of local renames is a new tool, hosted on Meta, that allows for global renames on all wikis where the name is not registered will be deployed.

Your help is greatly needed during this process and going forward in the future if, as a bureaucrat, renaming users is something that you do or have an interest in participating in. The Wikimedia Stewards have set up, and are in charge of, a new community usergroup on Meta in order to share knowledge and work together on renaming accounts globally, called Global renamers. Stewards are in the process of creating documentation to help global renamers to get used to and learn more about global accounts and tools and Meta in general as well as the application format. As transparency is a valuable thing in our movement, the Stewards would like to have at least a brief public application period. If you are an experienced renamer as a local bureaucrat, the process of becoming a part of this group could take as little as 24 hours to complete. You, as a bureaucrat, should be able to apply for the global renamer right on Meta by the requests for global permissions page on 1 September, a week from now.

In the meantime please update your local page where users request renames to reflect this move to global renaming, and if there is a rename request and the user has edited more than one wiki with the name, please send them to the request page for a global rename.

Stewards greatly appreciate the trust local communities have in you and want to make this transition as easy as possible so that the two groups can start working together to ensure everyone has a unique login identity across Wikimedia projects. Completing this project will allow for long-desired universal tools like a global watchlist, global notifications and many, many more features to make work easier.

Hi. Some more times I have seen that you cahnge the visibility of deleted pages (you hide the version). Why? Just beside the fact, that you would get some troubles on the german WP (it will not be hidden in such cases), it has no sense: if you delete a page, so it can be read by admins only; if you hide it, so it is the same, it can be read by admins only.
